Too bad Rupp had achilles surgery. He could have been a 2:03* guy. Course is definitely Rupp certified.

Why not a Letsrun field trip and measure the course?
I think the question for Kiptum now is does he do another marathon in the spring or focus on world XC/shorter road or track races. Obviously there will likely be an asterisk next to his time from this race so he may want to try London, but he could definitely be a contender over 10000m on the track.

Don't let them get to you Rojo, you're still my hero. xxxxxxxx

With worlds not until October next year he’ll have six months to get in top track shape after London.

No, seriously, I am impressed you caught that and pinpointed the likely problem. I hope we hear how this screw up happened.

A bit of a cheeky comment :)
I don't want to be too much of a nit picker but how short was the course? You gave a time estimate for the fastest runners. Though that is great for the elite runners, it's in time. Without going into the theory of relativity, let's just say that distance and time are two different things when comparing the speed of one runner with another.
So, for the rest of the pack who ran Abu Dhabi, is there an estimate in distance?
Love your website!!
Cheers,
Jay
If you look at 3;31 in the video you can see a U-Turn sign for the course. Definitely something interesting happened. It's a blue sign on the right.
Looking at the race video and studying the online course map:
1. The difference where they actually did the u-turn to the online loop appears to be about 500m short.
2. Based on google images, I can't even see where there is an entrance at the very north part of the loop.
3. I'm not sure how I would have measured much of this course considering the lane restrictions for this level race. Sometimes the available road was split - but not evenly.
My gut reaction is that the course may have been measured correctly but the government may have changed it at the last minute and the organizers had no choice.....it's happened before.
How come Garmi s consistently measure tracks at > 0.25mi? Doh
Rojo is hammered in this video, right? That can't be how he talks normally, can it?

I love how rojo talks like he writes.
Tracks on strava don't seem amazingly short.

I'm bigly and awesomely impressed that he could put together a video like that.

Length matters, right Rojo?
https://justpaste.it/7obnx1stly: Great work Rojo, the video made my day and it's very compelling. I would just like to see google maps measured estimate for the distance that was cut.
2ndly: You just had all your tabs/bookmarks/applications visible - just a complete madman doing it for the LOVE of the sport! I'm in awe.

Yeah, noticed that, and the redtube.com tab.

Using Strava I got about 400 meters cut off at the roundabout, at 2:56/km pace that's about 70 seconds.
Damn, you're right. I keep forgetting worlds are in October. Hopefully he does London and shakes things up.
