you got it right. alcohol consumption will go the way of dodos, bear baiting, and tobacco.
Sad. Loser.
Oh really, d-bag?
Alcohol makes people angry, looks like.
Yes. Really.
I know you. You are one of those "up tight" running nerds with Nike posters plastered all over their dorm room and a collection of spikes they routinely show off to friends. Lame. On top of that you slow and fat skinny.
Apologies.
I meant "skinny fat"
You don't even know me. You troll douchebag stereotypical letsrun poster living in their mom's basement with some minimum wage job.
But I do know you. There is always one of YOU on every college team. We always talk about you when you aren't around.
You need less Jesus and more Alcohol.
But you should research the demographics of the average reader of letsrun, I believe the median is $70k a year? did I make that up? Regardless, I have my own basement and it's where I keep all my alcohol. I spend more on alcohol than you do on books in a semester.
I know your mom pays for your flotrack account. I know you didn't even win your local Turkey Trot. ;(

Ok, ok, it's pretty clear to see that this isn't going to be a fair fight. Joe College, slink back to your dorm room and find someone or something else to pick on.
Like others said, good job on the OP figuring it out early. You should beat to the sound of your own drum and not get caught up in the drinking and partying atmosphere. A lot more bad can come from alcohol than good.
However, once you are of a age, a good beer or wine does hit the spot sometimes after a stressful week or with a nice dinner.

Its legal everywhere now, ya know.

You're doing college wrong then. Take some real classes or work a job. Get that stress level up and you will understand why people drink.
It's really not that complicated. People drink because they are:
(1) Sheep who can't think for themselves, and
(2) Not able to feel good about themselves as they naturally are and so they need to alter their state to feel good more comfortable with their essence.
How about coffee and tea?

F*%# you
I fundamentally disagree with this post. No drinking is not good for you. However, I think the effects that it has on running are overstated (all the top guys in my conference in college went out a couple times a month). Furthermore, many people are saying nothing "good" ever comes from drinking. Maybe the better word is "productive." I never got anything done while drunk, that much is true, however I really do value the memories and stories I made with my friends over the years, and I look back on those drunken nights out laughing, singing, and having real, serious conversations fondly. The excitement of an upcoming Saturday night, to hitting the peak surrounded by your friends, to going back to the house, eating, and winding down, then getting it all out with a 15 miler and copious amounts of eggs to follow the next morning was one of the most enjoyable parts of college, and something that I think really helped me grind through the toughest academic weeks. I made lots of friends on these nights, many of which I am still close with today, and also had a successful running and academic career.
Since leaving college, I have also found that there are lots of alcoholic drinks that are actually delicious. As other posters have said, two good beers or a glass of whiskey to unwind at the end of a week is really nice. I guess the point that I am making is that while you are right that alcohol certainly does not directly help you reach goals or accomplish things, there is a reason "leisure" exists. Not everything you do has to be directed towards some greater end. If it were, I might even venture to say that you may more quickly burn out and lose focus on that thing. No I am not advocating for getting hammered for no reason other than to get drunk. That is borderline addiction and substantial enough to actually keep you from your goals. However, drinking to relax, spend a night with friends, or potentially make some new ones I believe is worthwhile. Life is short, take some time to just enjoy things once in awhile.

Good point, another reason not to drink. Alcohol increases estrogen and decreases testosterone levels. Men with high estrogen levels and lower testosterone levels are more likely to be a leftie. Therefore more likely to vote for democrats. Therefore, if you want to make America great again. And you are a true red blooded American who embraces the free market, pro 2nd amendment, anti commie, love Wal-Mart, eating at waffle house as a Saturday morning treat, drink your coffee black, never shave your armpits or private parts, have re-watched Rocky IV a few dozen times, played red dawn as a kid, and rode your bike as a kid without adult supervision for hours on end. Than you should do as our great leader does and that is never drink.
That's unfortunate, but it sounds like he had dementia. Drinking might have exacerbated it, but it wasn't the cause. It's genetic, but good for you for stopping.
"Never a trust a man that won't take a drink."
While, yes it is a generalization, what it says is that if someone is so incredibly tight, so paranoid about letting their guard down just one hair, they are so worried about losing even a tiny fraction of control that they won't even drink a glass of wine or sip a beer, then they must be harboring some REAL demons.
Someone that will kick back a few is saying they have nothing to hide. They aren't scared to (somewhat) show themselves.
*I'm not talking about binge drinking or imbibing to the point of puking or blacking out.
How many people make it to the Supreme Court? Very very few. You want success? Start drinking your beer and having some kegers. If you don’t like beer and lots of it, then you’re some kind of scum bag loser liberal
