I'm 18 years old and in college and drinking alcohol is just disgusting to me. It's basically the equivalent of chugging a bunch of nail polish or drain cleaner, and you wake up feeling like sh*t in the morning. People waste their lives on it and if you overdo it you can lose some brain cells. What's the point?
Drinking is a waste of time

you sound like a really good time bud.

Whether you have a natural aversion to alcohol or not, congratulations (and I am not being facetious) on coming to this conclusion much sooner than most people do. Hell, most people never do.
-
Just going running at night when everyone else is getting wasted. Worked for Nenow.

Good for you for figuring out that binge drinking is stupid. Given that you're a freshman in college, you've probably been binge drinking total garbage liquor or beer, making it even worse. I enjoy sipping a nice bourbon, or a glass of a good beer or wine. Very relaxing, often goes great with what I'm eating. You may find there's good stuff out there.

Never trust a man that won't take a drink.

I mean, I've sat down with just a beer or two and found it to be quite relaxing. It's nice to come back to my dorm after classes and have one. However, it seems that hardly anybody, at least in college, drinks in moderation. It's always "let's get shitfaced tonight bro".

Man what a total waste of life.
You're supposed to work that out because of your time in college... -

So I should not trust Ghandi?
As for the OP, I agree that getting wasted is a huge waste of time, money and energy. Plus it affects you for long afterwards.
But the occasional drink with a friend is a great thing. It is weird though---we guys will get together and drink a beer but we will not just get together for no reason. -

It is not as prevalent as you think. They are just loud and drawing attention to themselves. Plenty of people are not drinking or drinking moderately. -
Stick to your guns kid, if you don't want to drink don't!!
Alcohol has more negative than positive associated with it. -

It's a great way to relax, meet people and enjoy time with friends.
Is it the only way? No.
Is it the healthiest way? No.
But, it works and it's generally socially acceptable. Do what you want and don't judge others - hopefully those around you will do the same. -

Sick bro. Live your life based on some bs quote that heavy drinkers perpetuate to make themselves feel better. -
When I was in college in the 70's, a Freshmen could go to a frat party and drink copius amounts of beer for free. Is that still the case?

I've been to a couple the first month and yes, that is true. Not just beer of course.

You nailed it! You got the wisdom! Congratulations!
I drank from 13 to 34 years. Then I got the wisdom. I stopped and have not only never had the desire again to drink. My life improved 1000%. Recently I became aware of just how destructive alcohol is. It truly ruins countless lives and turns what is the wonderful gift of life into hell. It was all around me - my neighbors, relatives, and even my own father! I'll tell you this, my father had everything. He was a top executive and looked like the president of a country. One cold winter night I got a call that that he was found only in his underwear at the local shopping mall. His brain had literally deteriorated due to drinking. And it wasn't that much., maybe 2 to 3 drinks at night, maybe got drunk once in a while. Over the years it destroyed him physically and mentally. -
Good for you in so many ways. Drinking has destroyed my life. Divorced, kid won't talk to me, jail, lost job have no money and every day is a struggle to get through. I thought I was cool and in control but instead I was and am a complete loser. Don't give in to others when they try to convince you to change who you are.

Ghandi is dead. He’s been dead for over 70 years. And, If he were alive, you should not trust him. Why not read about how he liked to test himself by sleeping naked with young girls. Would not recommend letting that dude babysit.
I’m summary - your example is stupid. However, what you were trying to do is more stupid. The guy made a generalization. Trying to find an exception doesn’t mean the generalization isn’t correct. It’s a generalization. -

Joecollege,
My nephew was your age about 10 years ago. He was always preaching and judging we that partake in libations. Fast forward about 6 years after that. He comes to visit. My wife and I need to go out to a function, while he stays behind watching TV for the night. We get home, and I notice in the recycling bin 9 empty beer bottles. Hmmm , I guess that superior opinion has changed. So, maybe a few years from now, you won't be such an expert. -
You're doing it wrong.
