Hi: I live in the city and like to run early in the morning or at night. I am wondering if there are any safety devices to use while running. I have looked into the Run Angel - which sets off an alarm and will contact someone you specify but am wondering if there are other devices you may all use for safety measure. Thanks !
* Run in well-lit, well-populated areas.
* Don't wear headphones.
* Wear bright clothes (including a safety vest) & LED lights.
* Vary your running routes.
* Run against the flow of traffic (and be aware of vehicles that could be used to pull you inside).
* Let people know where you're running & when you're returning (and stick to it).
* Be aware of your surroundings at all time.
* Use your head & if something doesn't feel right, then get out of the situation.
* Run Angel (though I'm not familiar with it sounds like an good idea). Something that can make a loud noise to attract attention if you need it.
* Pepper spray (is small enough that it won't be annoying to carry).
* Running partner. (Check out if the local running shop has group runs.)
My girlfriend runs nearly every morning & she uses all of the above techniques (minus the last three).
