Lunarglides Are Dead. What's the closest available replacement?

A couple of my friends who wore them went to the Odyssey React and are big fans of those!

It may be worth taking a look at the NB Beacon. I’m actually not sure how it would be classified, but it’s light, extremely cushioned yet pretty responsive.

Brooks Ravenna 9 and Saucony Guide ISO 1/2 are the only models that come to mind

Thank you! I went with trying the Odyssey Reacts in the end. Wore them for the first time today and they were superb! The React material may well be even more marshmallowy than the Lunarlon was but seems marginally more responsive.

Time will tell how well the React foam holds up but then I was hugely sceptical re the Lunarglides yet got well over 300 miles out of them in the end. I'll be more than happy if I get the same from these.

I’m also looking for a Lunarglide replacement. Do you find the Odyssey to feel very hot? I’ve heard complaints that they don’t breathe well.

Well I've now got 500+ miles on my first pair! I actually loved these shoes so much I bought a second pair but the first pair keeps going!

I'd never worn Nike's at all before trying the Lunarglides and the most I'd ever got out of any shoes was ~ 350 miles before they felt dead. Yeah, I guess I could still have kept going in some a bit longer but when the foam goes my legs always start to hurt that bit more and I get the feeling of shin splints starting which serves as my warning sign. But the foam of these Odyssey Reacts is just phenomenal at holding up. I've started wearing the 2nd pair I have as well but even with th substantially higher mileage, the feel is still similar.

Thoroughly recommend these shoes to anyone who loved the Lunarglides.

I just bought odyssey reacts. Trying to find a replacement for the Nike Lunarglide 6 i have been wearing for years. After my first run..... my feet were terribly sore. I had to stop after 1.5 miles. I assume this is because they didnt have the same level of support as the lunarglides?

Do i just need to work on breaking these in more/ adjusting, or is there perhaps a better alternative?

I'd actually go with the new Guide 13. The newer foam is more responsive and the post less intrusive.

I have the same problem.

I tried a couple of runs and these Nike Odyssey Reacts just make my feet numb.

I have tried loosening the laces but that has not helped that much.

I think the toe box is much narrower.

Are the Saucony's suggested any wider in the toe box? I want to order different shoes but cannot afford to keep doing this and cannot currently get to a store for a fitting due to Covid 19.

I personally found the heel area of Saucony Guide Iso too stiff; which made runs a bit joyless. I picked up some Salomon Sonic RA Max 2 and was very pleased. Quite light and responsive, although not as much as the old lunarglides.

I have really bad heel problems when running (feels like really deep bruising) and found the Lunarglides 9 served the purpose of preventing this, did the Sonic RA Max 2 have a lot of cushioning around the heel area? im finding it really difficult to try on new trainers due to covid there's no running up and down the shops to try them out safely.

So what's a good replacement for the Nike Lunarglide, I mean Nike Odyssey React 2? haha

So what are you running in now? I found your post because I'm STILL looking for that shoe. After Odyssey React 2 went away I did the Prism and loved it. But V1 was great, V2 not so much. For racing I went with Zoom Fly 4 and will stock up on those before they mess with that in Zoom Fly 5. But it's not a daily trainer like the Lunarglide, Odyssey, or New Balance Prism V1, so I'm still stuck training in clunkers (preserving miles in my last Prism). BTW, I still rotate the Asics DS Trainer. Currently on 25 and will upgrade to 26 when it's time to retire. It's a completely different feel, but use for all the same purposes as the Lunarglide (slash Odyssey slash Prism).

Mizuno Inspire. Same shaped last. Pretty light despite the appearance of the outsole.

I tried the Odyssey Reacts as recommended here and other places for Lunarglide fans and hated them. I suppose they're ok for intervals, but not for long runs. I've had a few iterations of the Zoom Vomeros since then as recommended a few years ago by a Nike associate and they fit well, however they are getting super expensive and I'm yet again looking at an alternative. Really annoyed they cancelled such a good shoe, as I had problems with other shoes for years before getting a gait analysis that saw the Lunarglides recommended to me.

I switched from lunars to reacts and HATED them, sadly.

Now I switch between E. Speeds, Z. Fly, and Rebel 2 depending on the run.

Try a Mars rover, assuming they still make them, and hopefully what’s good for Mars is well good enough for the moon.
