Not all those 2500 were politically oriented though. Headline political assassinations were common back then, but not as rampant as in other countries (Sicilian mafia 80s, various South America squads on all sides).

How many of those bombing stated above were Irish Mob versus Italian/Sicilian Mob in Cleveland and other large cities? More than a few. Feds were doing significant surveillance on members of organized crime in '70's. Many in organized crime were also working under cover for feds, thus significant retaliation during that era.
