In which state? I would say it probably varies.

Around 30,000 for each team. Men's XC, Women's XC, Men's Track, and Women's XC. That is the average salary for a Div. 1 Head Track or XC coach. Now add them up.
Jim Stintzi made a base salary of $82,000 for an 11-month contract at UW coaching track and cross country.
you can find out what any employee of the UW system makes online at the following url
I was just offered 24k full benefits for a head cc/track at a small college in Kentucky that will be a very good team. I'm debating taking it because I have a Masters in Accounting and could be making 45k.
What do you think? Would you take it?
Damn, thats rough, I have to go with the moeny you could be making with that accounting degree though, maybe see if you can be a part time head coach, or part time assistant if you really love running, I mean, if you're super qualified for the coaching job you'd think they would take what they can get, but I'm young and nieve so I don't really know.
The original poster asked what the salaries were of small Division I coaches. While he doesn't specify what he thinks "small" is I can give some insight. Some of the conjecture posted by others is way off the mark. I work at a mid-sized DI college (small by some, medium by others). I have lots of years of professional experience. Salary in the mid-50's. Assts. in the mid-30's.
I have seen plenty of salaries around the country. I would estimate that
Head coaches at most DI colleges fall between 45-60
Head Coaches at the more prominent DI colleges make 60-90
A couple make over 100k. Not many, but a few. The top programs Texas, Texas A&M, Tennesse, LSU make $150 and up. In last years newspapers at NCAA's in TExas it was reported the women's coach at Texas makes $164 plus incentives.
I have seen incentives at the small to mid-sized program range from nothing to getting a $1000 bonus for winning a conference championship.
Assistant coaches at DI collges will be all over the map, but most fall into the $25-35 range. Of the 20 or so asst. coaches salaries that I definitely know about they fall into that range. I think most people would be surprised at how little asst. coaches receive, even at some of the Big 12, Big 10, SEC schools.
Salaries for most Div III head positions that I have seen fall into the $35-$45 range. More in the 30's. Of the dozen or so DIII coaches that I know all are making mid to high 30's.
Very few DIII coaches have full-time assts.
Hope this helps.
