From RW Daily:
\"Lornah Kiplagat is expected to officially...NYRR officials also promise that there will a historic announcement concerning this year\'s race made today.\"
So what\'s the historic announcement?

That it will serve as either the Men's or Women's Olympic trials, that's my guess.

Good guess, but the announcement is supposed to be about THIS year's race. I can't imagine the trials for 2008 being quite so early.
Maybe a new roster of elite athletes? Maybe the start of some sort of "Grand Slam" system?
50,000 runners.
my guess
Exactly! Because last year's race wasn't crowded enough.
85,000. No lottery this year - everyone gets in.
Perhaps that it will be the Olympic Trials race in the fall of 2007?

I would be surprised if they had the Trials that early.

With competitive/preferred starting corrals.
The will discontinue using the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the first two miles will be a swim, then bike thru Brooklyn and Queens,in the water again Cross Hellgate Channel to the main land then run down Broadway to Battery Park, back in the water to Staten Island and finish at the longest urinal in the world.
Or Carol Lewis will be announced as the official "Voice of the Marathon"
Any announcement yet?
Looks like the news is that the 1st place woman is going to get $130,000 vs. the 1st place male's take of $100,000.
