I ran a 3:00:47 and missed my BQ. I had a female friend on FB saying "You got it you just gotta train harder" Um, these times aren't even balanced. Also to all the morons saying "2:5X" is easy, go look up the statistics on it less than .9% of all marathoners ever run that fast. It's unreasonable considering overweight hobbyjogger women can hit a 3:30 so easily.
The mens 18-35 time now with a 15 min buffer is the womens OTQ standard, lol. A womens 18-35 minus 15 is a 3:15. Let that sink.

"Stop waiting for life to be easy. Stop hoping for somebody to save you. You don't need another person lying to you. Things don't all add up, but you are resilient. Face some hard facts and you could have an incredible life. "
Sh!t ain't fair.
Stop comparing yourself to others and get on with your life bro. -
You just have to remember that Boston is still a mass participation race with moderate qualification times.
If you want elite, qualify for the Olympic trials (219) or Fukuoka (sub 240 I think). If you run those times you'll get in, unlike Boston.
You're right about a fat guy running 330 though. I ran 332 at 235 pounds and that was fat weight (over 40 years old too). -
If I am looking at the charts correctly, a 15 minute buffer is sub 2:50. Women B standard for Olympic trials is sub 2:45

0.9% blah, blah, blah. So what! You are dislocating your shoulder patting yourself on the back for your 3:00.xx Marathon. Do you know your 3:00.xx Marathon is roughly equal to a 5:30 one mile? Stop crying. Try to break 17 minutes for 5K. Runners here know that's more impressive.

Eh, I’m fine with the BQ times. I do wish that instead of having a cutoff in terms of minutes, they did % under BQ. So let’s say the cutoff we’re 2% under BQ, then for M18-34 the cutoff would be BQ-3:36 while W18-34 would be BQ-4:12.

Let this sink in. There are guys 20 years older than you running 20 minutes faster.
-
Agree there should be the same cut off time for both men and women. Make it around 3 hours for both sexes. Men may have the advantage of being a bit more powerful on average than women for distance running, but women have the advantage of weighing less than men on average which is a big help for the marathon distance. There is absolutely no rational justification for dividing the sexes when it comes to qualifying times for marathons.

What am I supposed to “let sink”? I’m glad it’s that way. I’ll take more 3:30 chicks over more of you 10/10. -

I think when he is saying "let that sink in" - he/she is pointing out that not only are BQ standards to easy so are the OTQ standards for women. Let's be real a 2:45 OTQ isn't getting you within 20mins of actual olympic quality ladies. -

We know females get closer by percent to male world records, swimming 50 metres to 1500 metres. We cannot say that for running. Women are about 12% slower than male world records from 100m to Marathon. Some events between 100m and Marathon, women are further or closer to men times, basically statistical noise. The average women has roughly x 2 body fat than average man; athletic women are roughly x 2 body fat than athletic man. Boston Marathon is not a 26.2 mile swim. I think it would be fair in a 26.2 mile swim to have equal standards. I do not understand this whining? Men who want to race Boston Marathon know there are different time standards by gender before they train for a Marathon. When it's time to attempt to race Boston, then men complain about women. -
If you run fast enough you will win.
-
They want 50/50 women/men. It's that simple. Men are still in majority. You should get faster or stop complaining. It's true only a few men can hit the standard. But it's also true only a few women hit their standard.
-
I don't know I see a lot of fat hobby joggers running under 3:00. Sub elite hobby joggers come in all shapes and sizes. Not everyone is good enough to qualify for the hobby jogging olympics. Maybe sign up for the charity parade or a marathon that has a net drop of 10,000 ft.
-
Other options include spending $400 on spring shoes and another $100 on a 4oz bottle of Marteeeeeen sugar.

The problem with this formula is that men are more competitive than women when it comes to road running. Women are more into running for the social aspects while men are more likely to compete against each other. So the qualifying standards for women always are going to be a bit softer if a woman really wants to get after it.
That said, I got into 1:18 half shape at age 30 after 10 years off from serious training and probably could have run a 2:50 marathon if I threw in a few long runs. 3 hours is easily doable if you do any kind of serious training. -

Yeah I know what he was trying to say but he does a terrible job trying to make his point. And he is a whiner. -

Yeah, get over it. No one cares.

Explain exactly in real words what your complaint is. I have been part of this sport for 30+ years and have no Idea if you are complaining about men's times, women's times, Boston being easy, Boston being hard, etc. Please use REAL words, not text slang. -
I love the arm chair QB's that say running a sub-3 is easy. Until you actually do it, STFU. I ran a 1:18 half. Good for you! You didn't run a sub-3, though. When you get to mile 22 in a marathon and your body is revolting against you...you have no idea how it will respond. If you are really racing a marathon, that crushing feeling the last few miles is different than anything you've experienced in your running life.
