I go to the twice yearly Brooks Truckload sale they hold each October and April. Fantastic sales on shoes and clothing. Mostly factory seconds but the defects are extremely minor. Shoes range from $29.99 to $59.99 I've never had a problem with them..
Get a part time job at a local running store. If the owner is cool, you should be able to get your gear at store cost.
Get a shoe with boost foam - the midsole lasts forever and you can glue on more outersole - i've run 2000km in adios with 4 outersole retreads

True. Purchasing Nike's will cost you more because they have to now pay for political ads.
They used to pay even when they weren't political
Become a member of a local running club that offers discounts... Here in NYC some of them offer you discounts with runningwarehouse.com... That’s on top of all the sales discounts.... I was able to get the first edition of Vaporflys shipped for under $200 last Xmas;)
My stable of shoes and what I paid.
Trainers : Adidas Tempos x2 67$
Recovery/2nd run shoe : adidas energy boost 68$
Tempo shoe - Nike Zoom Fly SP. 67$ (Local finish line last week)
Racer/intervals - Nike Zoom Streak Flyknit x2. One pair was 65$ one pair was eBay new for 39.99
Don’t have to break the bank just have to keep eyes open. For around 360$ I have a stable of 6 great shoes.

I'm always curious about people who say this. Do you really replace your shoes every 6 weeks or whatever, consistently? So like 9 pairs of shoes a year? It seems crazy.

It's probably closer to 3 pairs a year.
If you transition to minimalist - you don't have to go the full five fingers, but something like the Merrell Trail Glove or NB Minimus, you can get 4000-5000 miles out of a shoe.
Firsttothefinish has good deals on older models, plus a good return policy.

Shoe costs are killing me...any ways to get free or reduced price shoes From Nike/ASICS brooks etc?
It's funny that you name the brands who are LEAST likely to support a hack runner (which you obviously are if you are asking this here).
New Balance, Hoka and others are FAR more likely to help out a decent club runner who gets around social media, compared with Nike and Asics. Brooks, MAYBE.

Find someone that works at Nike, be super kind and have them buy shoes for you using the employee discount. You get a double discount if you find what you are looking for at the Nike discount outlet stores.
I really hope I never lose my Nike connection.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
