In today's race, it didn't matter whether Barega was sharp. His race plan was simple: He just tucked in behind Kejelcha, let him do the work and then kicked past him at the end. He essentially ran a time trial with his own personal rabbit.
Sort of like Houlihan in her first two DLs this year, where the pacing was perfect for her. It's going to be interesting to see how she adjusts to this new tactic. (Or maybe, as several people have suggested, she just peaked earlier in the year. If that's the case, then she needs to get faster, or she'll join the hordes chasing the Gang of Four.

Completely agree. Houlihan didn't manage to get there yesterday not because she wasn't sharp, but because Muir grew wise to her tactic and took it out earlier.
Houlihan used the same tactic against her a few times, Muir realises she can't outkick her in the last 100m.
Muir used a tactic similar to Obiri in the 5k final against Hassan. Went earlier and took the field by suprise, and then hung on for dear life.
Did you see Schippers run out of her lane? Should have been DQ'd.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
