Really sweaty wet shirt = bad shafting, especially under the underarms.
Wow , you get shafted in the underarms ?
Kinky , but I guess it lessens the chances of STDs .

As someone who usually wore a shirt training on my own, but ran shirtless with the team, it's a simple answer. When everybody sees someone pop their shirt off, they think "that's a good idea" and pop theirs off as well.
Running alone, I'm a half mile into the run before I think "you know, it's really hot, I wish I had taken my shirt off". By then it's too late .
its way more comfortable...why not unless your insecure because your fat. although unless you're a hobbyjogger you won't need to worry about that

Because running is a primal activity. The fewer clothes you wear, the more primal and free you feel.
Wearing a shirt while running is like banging with a condom on. It's fine, but just not the same.
I believe its a little more like masturbating with condom on but nice observation.
The long term sun exposure from training shirtless in College is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Most of these guys will never run past college.
And I say this as a former D1 guy who still runs.
Shirtless.

You can't take it off and just wrap it around your wrist or tuck it in your waistband?
As a former, I can confirm they are trying to act manly but they fail miserably for they don't wear shirtless over tights.
Behold this perfect tan and nipple hair chaffing prevention system (thanks mom) that would both make the MoBell jealous.

I tried the tucking in my waistband once, kept pulling my shorts down. Maybe if I ran in basketball shorts it would have been different, but the waistbands in most split shorts can't handle a T-shirt.
As far as carrying it, Why TF would I want to carry something with me for almost my entire run.

Really? Even with all the super- thin high performance material out there it’s still just waaay too hot to wear something!?!? Yet somehow women manage to cover up. Big babies.
No, women run shirtless too except obviously sports bras which serve another function besides coverage. Simple answer - it's hot AF. If it's over 90 degrees, there is no shirt in the world that will keep you cooler than running without one. Also, the reasons you see more high school and college runners do this is 1) cultural (as in older adults tend to be more self-conscious and /or modest) and 2) fancy tech-fiber tops are expensive for HS and college kids.
Yeah, the guys promoting "wicking" shirts are guys who don't run in the real humid heat.
I don't know about everyone else but when its 100+ degrees after school in California taking your shirt off feels just makes the run more bearable.

Cons? Well, I lived in southern California for eight years and limited my shirtlessness to no more frequent than every other day to fend off wrinkles and skin cancer.

I will forever use this when asked why I choose to go shirtless.
If it's warmer than 55F (and i'm not in a race where I have to keep my schools jersey on) my shirt comes off at some point during the run
If it's above room temp ~72ishF I don't bother starting with it
I ran shirtless in high school along with my future D1 teammates. Which is to say, it's definitely a D1 thing, but it's not clear if it's cause or effect. I'd you're D1 material, you run faster and get hotter.

In Spain, where I live, it is considered rude for men to go shirtless, usually even in the park, and mostly male runners wear shirts even when it is 100F. Of course, the air is dry, and the shirt dries out fast, as you run, and it's usually actually cooler to wear one than not.
(Note to British tourists: in Spain the beach is topless, but it's considered crude and base to wear a bikini or go shirtless on the streets in the town two blocks from the beach.)
Why? Why two blocks?

Is the OP looking for some sort of homoerotic subtext?

I've personally never understood why Europeans are so prudish about this sort of thing. Anyone on here from Europe who can explain? For a culture that's supposedly so free and open, why does this strike a nerve?
I live in Ireland and its perfectably acceptable to run topless. When I lived in Asia running topless was taboo. The only place it's tolerated is on the beach.I never heard it was taboo in Spain until I read todays post.
