More to do with the haves and have-nots than anything else. My guess is that sport participation at this school is down across the board.

Running used to be cool???
Yes, for a brief time in the early to mid-70s, after Shorter won the Olympic marathon, The Complete Book of Running was a bestseller and Nikes were worn everywhere.
Cool for adults but not high school kids. Running has never been cool for high school kids. Ever.

Is it possible that group running with your shirt off is weird for kids these days? I mean, I just don't get it. It makes it seem like a weird homoerotic hazing cult. It's also unhealthy from a skin cancer standpoint.
I used to run shirtless in Boston. Ran all the way from Downtown Crossing to MIT, Harvard, and then the Cambridge Area.
Don't run shirtless.

Maybe weird now but back in the day it was completely normal and no one thought anything homoerotic about it.
It's just like today. Wearing short shorts while out running is considered weird whereas back then if you wore long shorts everyone would think you're weird. Fashion changes I guess.
There are a TON of HS's from Fresno to Bakersfield, all have full football teams, then ya add all those JC's, Fresno State, Bakersfield State. Football will always have plenty of teams and players. That's why we have over 1000 colleges playing football in this country.
A small % of overly protective parents won't make a dent.
really??? what is the purpose of you criticizing women who run?? anyone who runs is good for the sport, they spend money on races, shoes, etc. and I am sorry did you share your really amazing running photo and times or just hide behind your computer screen??

Progress, we just need to have marketing to make running manly again. Not something overweight middle aged house wives do.
Forget it. These gol durn kids today would rather play Fortnite, guzzle Red Bull and eat Cheetos after school.
Too bad nobody was handing out Robotron scholarships when I was going to college!!

Make Lacrosse a fall sport so it doesn't take away good sprint and field athletes from the T&F teams.
I don't really know much about lacrosse but have seen it played. You dress like an ice hockey player from the waist up and a soccer player from the waist down. You run around on a field with big sticks and smack people with them all the while trying to put a ball in the net.
Yeah, I'd say move lacrosse to the Fall to free up some people that want to sprint without getting hit in the head, arms, hands, by someone with a big stick.
Lacrosse is just a way for good not great athletes who would otherwise have no chance to play sports in college play a sport in college.

Me and Tommy are delighted to see fellow toker Snoop Dogg as an inspirational football coach to youngsters. He is of great character.
In certain communities like those who have a high percentage of Asian kids or a very high income might have trouble getting kids to play football because of cultural differences or fears of brain injury. But football is very traditional across the country so I don't see it fading, at least not in the near future.
You fools could never make running cool again, because lets face it, it never was. It is like saying "Make America Great Again". It never was. Our forefathers were warring land robbers who ironically left europe for freedom to worship God. This place sucks.

Wow, you ran 4 miles in that scary neighborhood, and without a shirt no less, you are lucky you didn't get raped and thrown in the Charles River. Those thugs at M.I.T. are particularly nasty. They coulda shoved a slide rule up your arse and make you recite PI to 10 digits.

Oh shut up. You're just wrong. I bet you think you're such a great athlete when you can't do a push up.

Notice the county that this happened in... They already have a few good xc teams around and one that is really good.
Track is not really affected since it is a spring sport. Although I guess spring football practice might interfere, but it does not at a ton of other schools.
XC? You might get a few guys out, but it is not like the 250 lb guy is going to want to run long distance.

Loudoun County is a wealthy affluent area. My vote is parents don't want their kids suffering concussions and scholarships for FB aren't happening.
+1
But they are also seeing concussions in lacrosse, soccer, and rugby.
A family member made his three kids be on the swim team, despite his success as a football player.
Concussions are one thing, the threat of CTE is another.

I remember threads here where HSers were not allowed to run with their shirts off.

Have you seen the numbers? Participation in youth tackle football has been dropping.

Quite common in the 70s and 80s. All we had was cotton (maybe nylon singlets) that got wet, heavy and chafed.
Of course we also had much shorter shorts. (Who remembers Dolfin shorts?)
We also had less belly. (Speaking compared to what I have now!)
