What gets lost in the Jesse Owens story which of it hadn't happened would have made a great fiction story. Was the injury to Eulace Peacock,
Peacock had a winning record vs Owens in the 100 yards, and had also beat him in the long jump. Owens 26-8 WR stood for over 20 years. Peacock had a 26-3PR.
Peacock ran for Temple, and sustained an injury at the 36 Penn Relays which kept him out of our Olympic trials. If he's been there it's very realistic to see him "maybe" beating Owens in the 100m, winning a silver in the long jump and a gold on the relay. Which would have lessened the impact Owens made in Berlin.
Mack Robinson the older brother of baseball legend Jackie Ribinson took silver in the 200m. The USA could have ran....
Jesse Owens....Eulace Peacock(if healthy)...Mack Robinson...Ralph Metcalfe
The first great African American USA 4x1 team.
