So I have a question regarding when to lower paces and specifically work on getting mileage down closer to "race" pace. We're not talking about necessarily doing 200's to refine speed; I'm just curious as to when it is recommended to start transitioning from easier threshold work and into stuff that is closer to the 5:00 mark.
I'm currently trying to build up tempo length. Currently at about 6 miles @ 5:25-5:30 pace. Usually around 65-70 MPW. 15-16 mile long runs. I'm more of a speed guy in track (800/mile) and this is my first XC season, so I am unsure when to start integrating stuff closer to the 4:50-5:10 pace into my schedule.
