Tendonitis of Achilles it Just Getting Old

I asked a very experienced nurse practioner and she offered that you might try taking time off to rest it up and see if it improves. The notion being that it would help either way.

But if it doesn't, wouldn't that point to the fact that it is age related?

I have the same issue and taking time off beyond a day or two per week is not something i/m willing to do.

far I’ve take five days without running, and have been riding a stationary bike and doing the 3x10 eccentric calf excercise, while icing the Achilles as well.

It feels better in the morning, and I know it would be fine if I ran, but I want to get rid of it ahead of starting annual fall marathon training.

i've done about the same as you, except just about two or three days off rather than 5, and then i go back to running. Had mine for at least 2 months now, On the advice of other discussions on LRC, i've lightened up on the rigorous stretching and stopped icing.

If the calf raises are doing any good, i can't tell.

I'm about at the point where im ready to put this behind me, so this week i even jumped rope a couple of times, and did a round or two of box jumps. Also did some time on the stability disk.

The week before i even worked in a tempo and an interval workouts.

All in all, it doesn't really feel much better but it doesn't feel any worse, either.

I can run okay, just not forefoot.

If this is as good as it's going to get, i could continue running, but it's not going to be fast.

Get a platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection.

I've been having pain in both my achilles recently and like you I'm not sure if it's a muscle tear or simply age related inflammation.

Twisted my left ankle a few weeks ago and only gave myself a few days rest. Then first day back at the park got into a fight with a Russian thug and had to give him a few hard kicks. Since then both my achilles have been sore. I've read online that if its a tear then you should feel pain when standing on tiptoes or extending the foot, but I don't have that, just general pain.

I'm inclined just to train through these things unless its a clear injury. When you're in your forties or fifties if you took a week off every time you felt a bit sore, you'd never run.

Yeah, since it usually warms up fine, I’m inclined to say it might just be getting old, and maybe even arthritis, versus Tendonitis or bursitis.

I train through a lot of the usual muscle aches, hamstrings, etc, my rule is if it goes away during the run then it can’t be that bad. But I’m not messing with an Achilles.

I’m on day six of biking instead of running, and it’s getting a little better and isn’t as creaky in the morning.

It’s probably just old age, but once I get back to running in another couple of days, I’ll probably pay more attention to stretching, icing, and timing workouts and rest days.
