Hasn't even broke a sweat yet. Looks like he's going for a stroll in the park. He's got this one, I believe.
This might be the moronic post of the day award. I like Walmsley. I want him to to win. But given he is literally 1/4 of the way done with the race and calling it is just plain dumb. Do you do this at mile 6.5 of a marathon? 100 meters into a 400? After 1 lap of a 1500?
Clavery ~ 9 minutes back
Dhaene ~ "
Mendoza ~ 14 minutes back
Hermansen ~ "

I called Yuki after 1 mile of Boston.
Things won't heat up until early afternoon, and the bonking gets interesting.

Jim averaging 8:50 pace at 30.3 miles.
I'm curious how this compares with previous years.

Same. I was trying to find a way to look at splits from previous years. I found this site. If you drag the slider all the way to the left, it looks like you can get splits for the CR, which Jim appears to be 2 minutes ahead of.

You can try the link below. I have not been able to get the results pages for 2016 or 2017 to load in my web browser. I don't know if the split are available, but I image they would be there.

Success. Downloadable as Excel files. The page takes a very long time to load. Splits going back to 1981.
https://www.wser.org/splits/Wamlsley is 11m ahead of course record pace at Miller's Defeat (mile 34.4). CR 5:09. Walmsley 4:58.
François's strategy is to keep Jim within striking distance up until the 60-mile mark and then attack, according to Ryan Sandes.
So far, so good.
Jim 5:23 to Dusty Corners. Might wanna reign it in a bit there, buddy! I think Francois is making him nervous.

Going to be a hell of a race today! It takes giant balls to do what he did last year, and a bit of reckless abandon, but that's apart of the madness of being an elite athlete. I really hope he gets it done today, if he plays it smart until Forest Hill and still has some strong leg turnover (relatively speaking) I sure hope everybody else is ready to go to a dark place bc he'll really push it to the max to the finish.

I'm a fan of going after the CR, but why so early?! Get to the halfway point and then assess.... right?? I just don't get it

He actually hasn’t been really going for it so far. I think he’s just out there running and it just happens to be faster than Course record pace.
Yeah, right, he just happens to be that much faster than Olson...
Do you guys realize Olson was holding back at this point of the race, in order not to blow up later?
It's called 'pacing'.

Why wouldn’t he be that much faster than Olson?
