Walmsley in 5th at the escarpment, like 2 minutes back. Showing some restraint?
Florian Neuschwander leads.
Sounds like Jim is taking everyone's advice and sitting. I just checked Florian's Strava though and he better not let him get too far ahead. That dude has some speed!

Yeah seems like Florian is a lot of people’s dark horse favorite from comments I’ve been reading. Too early to say, but potential for this to be a great race.
Walmsley is playing it smart so far!! This is good news for ultra fans who probably don't want to watch another blow up. A lot of people will turn on him if he fails for the third time
Looks like he already took the lead at 10 miles

Quite impressive that Jim is not in the lead this year. Maybe he learned something.
Time will tell.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wins.
Courtney Dauwalter also looks to be playing it smart. 8 minutes behind the 1st place woman, Lucy Bartholomew

He is overrated and only took up ultra running to gain more instagram followers (mainly german hobby joggers who think he is very special). That being said nothing indicates he will win, in fact he already sucks at flat 100k races.

It has been corrected. Jim was 1:42 at the first checkpoint and had about a minute lead.
That didn't take long. Jim is physically incapable of not front running lol
He should be in the lead by this time if he is running his race. It's good that he didn't put 5 minutes on everyone on the first climb this time.

You can tell from his interviews and the way e races that Walmsley is very insecure. Takes confidence to let someone else lead.
The arrogance is just an act.

Sucks at flat 100k races with a 6:49 PR? That is 15 minutes faster than Walmsley.
http://statistik.d-u-v.org/getresultperson.php?runner=244257It's not a given that Florian will win but the same is true for Jim.

Yes, not very impressive time (Walmsley's PR obviously sucks too).

Enjoy Jim's lead while it lasts:

He may be in the lead, but he came through at 16 miles 15 minutes slower than last year. He is going easier. Almost a minute per mile slower is significantly slower.

He's 2 minutes ahead at 15.8 miles.
Walmsley's averaging 9:36 pace at 15.8 miles including a steep 4 mile uphill.
The course record average is 8:52 pace.
