Sub 14 without the bear and 100 degree temps? All the traditional ultra runners could probably learn a thing or two on pacing an ultra in hot temps and keeping your cool from Walmsley.

The man absolutely put on a clinic out there. If had weather like Olsen got in 2012 then he could go well under 14 flat, maybe even approach 13:45 or 13:30
Wow I'll admit I would have been nearly 3 hours behind him. He must be close to wr shape if he done a flat and fast race with good weather. Everyone was saying he would blow up and can't do it. They say the same about Bekele so this is the year for Jim and then Bekele to prove there greatness to the world.

Fixed it for ya.
Course Record, DESTROYED
Francois D'Haene, DESTROYED
Meghan Hicks, DESTROYED
Time for an apology from all the Meghan and Alfredo types and not to me, but to Walmsley. The conscious bias in this sport is quite unsettling. Can't accept runners with different backgrounds then their's...

early skepticism is the search for the truth. Always look for a reason and proof
Just to set the record straight, as of 3:30 A.M. Pacific Time on Sunday morning, there are no recorded times for anyone the No Hands Bridge checkpoint. Also, in Walmsley's post race interview, it sounds like he said that he stopped for two minutes because of the bears.
It is a little surprising that there is no mention of Walmsley's run on the front page (or of Western States at all). I know the brojos like to think this a "track" site (and it is the weekend of USAs), but Walmsley's record in bad conditions, after what happened the past two years, is top of the page worthy.
So if walmsley is a 14 flat guy
What kind of 5k potential were those behind him? 15:30 lol
He beat a bunch of scrubs
Eric Senseman just finished in 23 hours after being in third past halfway.

Went out too fast. Classic mistake Jim Walmsley made twice.

Seems like it is safe to convert 5K PR to 100mile time. Jim walmsley will run 13:52 if no crazy heat or bears on the course.
Stop being fanboys, Meaghan Hicks just raised some justified skepticism. I doubt any of you will be happier for Walmsley's success than she is. Morans.
Congrats to Jim for a job well done. Solid time in any weather, more so given the conditions. I'm not a fan, but he's at the top of his sport. I hope now he's done well at WS100 he'll give Comrades a try and also go after the 50-mile road record. And I'd love to see him run the Spartathlon, but I'm not sure that's among his goals.
Well done, Walmsley. The other cowboys, though...
this walmsley guy is such a bean pole, that it's kind of gross. put some muscle on bro.
The greatest race ever in an American ultra???
Oh please.
I like Walmsley (and if you recall I picked him on page 1 of this thread) but to put this ahead of Kilian Jornet's 2014 performance at the Hardrock 100 is laughable. Harder race overall....dude set the course record by 40 minutes...beat the 2nd place finisher by 2.5 hours and was reportedly not even running that hard and spent 10 to 15 minutes at the last 2 aid stations chatting with the people.

Agreed. I'd give a nod to Carpenter's Leadville record too.

Walmsley did exactly what Meaghan wanted which is to pace properly and win the race. Course record is just a bonus. To essentially even split the race with the temps so much better the first 5 hours showed how easy he was running.
If he gets a decent weather year, I would love to see him go for sub 14 whether he blows up or not!!
Everyone’s talking about Jim, but the real story is Dean Karnazes. The clear race favorite must have had the most epic blow up - finished in 27:07:18. How could the worlds greatest ultra runner take almost twice as long as the winner? Was he attacked by the bears?
I'm ready to see Jim post the run on Strava. Going to be some epic splits on there

You know a 100 mile ultra is a different thing to a 5k right?
I'm guessing your next post will be some nonsense about a college track stud easily being able to run 100 miles and win this race without trying.

What are you talking about? Post a link to her comments. I don't see them anywhere in this thread and can't find them anywhere.
