Staying moist is what makes an ultra challenging.

We're all contrarians now
After a standout performance or breakthrough season, no one has any clue whatsoever if the athlete will ever run faster again at any level. Half the big HS stars from this last track season will go nowhere in college. Half the college stars will go nowhere after college in terms of running. Half the pros winning races on the DL circuit will fade out after this year. And no one knows which ones they are.
Since marathon performance is determined by glycogen utilization rather than lactic tolerance, racing marathons require less mental toughness than 1500 - 5k - 10k.
For the people who worked hard and pushed themselves in a charity 5K, the effort hurts as much and the work requires as much dedication as someone who makes the Olympic final, and the result is just as meaningful to them.
If you could never motivate yourself to train hard or give full effort for a local 5K, even making an Olympic final wouldn't be meaningful for you.

Ultrarunning is a complete joke. Hipster event with zero competition. Any decent marathoner would crush all those clowns.
There is no such thing as Ultrarunning.
There are no such thing as Ultrarunners.
There are runners who choose to run Ultra marathons which are events longer than 26.2 miles.
You are still a runner.
Running a 50K does not make you an Ultrarunner.
Ultra, in latin, is a prefix meaning beyond- as in a distance beyond marathon distance.
Completing a Ultramarathon does not make you beyond a runner.
Also, Ultramarathons are fine and people should do them if they like to.
Kara Goucher was telling the truth.
Shoe drop means absolutely nothing to your running.
Diet is important. Mileage is important.
Slow runners can have fun...and inspire other runners...and even be coaches.
The most important job of a running coach is to keep his runners from overtraining
100% agreed on both

Midfoot striking is not a thing.
Explain?
People who think they are midfoot strikers are either heel strikers (who quickly make secondary contact with their forefoot) or forefoot strikers (who quickly make secondary contact with their rearfoot).
At least that's my unpopular opinion.

You are so, so stupid...
LOL
Why don't you post your picture so that LRC posters can tell you how ugly you are? ;)

Untalented runners busting their gut for a slow 5k inspire me way more than a guy who is talented but runs a fast 5k relatively easy.
Oregon hasn't been doing well as of late. Go Pilots/Cardinal/Crimson Tide/Buffaloes. Oh, and say what you want about D2, but we all know that the RMAC schools are OP.

Shoes designed for specific “pronation” (under, over, blah, blah, blah) are a marketing scam created by big corporations to sell more products to unknowing customers
“Mental toughness” isn’t real if you don’t believe it

Nah, don't agree with that. Completely different issues of why many people go for marathons and not 5Ks. It's pretty clear to me a lot of it has to do with ability to PR. Very difficult to hit PRs in the 5K once you hit 28+, whereas you can continue to PR in the marathon to age 40 due to how long it takes to acquire the endurance needed to do it well.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
