Why do the ESPN announcers keep saying "lights out" to describe runners?

Any free internet feeds of the races, that haven't been stolen from us by corporate monopolies?

Aleia Hobbs just ran 10.91 in still air, #4 NCAA all-time. With a legal 10.98 also in the first semifinal, hopefully the wind agrees for the final so we get to see the female equivalent that Coleman-Bacon final that the wind put a damper on last year.
Speaking of #4 NCAA all-time, frosh Lynna Irby 50.11 to win the last 400 semi, won by over a second. Huge separation so I figure there must be rough / inconsistent wind.
0.01 off the meet record. Not sure why she went bananas like that. Ellis was a second slower in her heat.

I was wondering same thing. She's a freshman however so that might explain it. She looked pleased to have run so fast. She's got 200 right now.

So you think the wind is affecting people differently in each lane? Never really thought of that.

No, WeJo.
Alice Wright is taking out the 10k like she did last year. 5:06 for the first 1600. Runner's are pretty much single file. Last year, Wright led 12 laps.

What's the equivalent mile time to a 5:00 minute 1500m?
5:06.34 1st 1600
5:10.04 2nd 1600 for Alice Wright.

5:20 for 1600 so probably 5:22 or 5:23.

Maybe that was her warm up and the best is yet to come.
Has Wright always been that thin? She’s half the size of Karissa.
Lead pack down to 8 at 4800. So 5:06, 5:10 and then roughly 5:14.
5k - 16:08.19
Temp is 67 degrees. Weather.com says wind is 11 mph out of west.
I talked to Harvard superstar Gabrielle Thomas. She was disappointed to not make the 100 final and said it may mean her coach is right and she'll have to be a 200/400 runner next year.
hot damn they're going to run fast in this 10k
They just referenced a slow start in this 10K, so stupid. 5:06 first mile is not slow or 'moderate.'
Irby showed talent years ago, running already mid 11s or close to it three years ago, along with mid 51, but after plateauing the last few years of high school, she improved a huge amount this year as a freshman and she not only ran that 50.11 in qualifying but also 22.37 with a headwind, just .01 behind Thomas's leading time, accomplished with a substantial tailwind.
Why is Rohrer running on the outside?? She's been doing it the entire race.

I'm following the splits on the race. Looks like Charlotte Taylor took the lead from Alice Wright and is now dropping 76 and 75 second laps. Wright was holding steady at 78 sec/lap. Only 6 left in the lead pack.
And pace just slowed to 80 secs at 6800m.

Announcer said Wright ran last year and also in 2006. Yes, 2006. Sure they meant 2016.
Announcer also was super disrespectful to Allie Ostrander during the Steeplechase.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
