CU just built a new 300 meter indoor track. I’ve seen articles in local papers with Wetmore specifically saying he hopes the new track will help recruit more sprinters to CU. I think Wetmore’s distance program lends itself really well to building base over the summer for cross country but it’s much harder to replicate over the winter in Colorado in preparation for track. Only time will tell but he definitely thinks the new indoor facility will help CU be more competitive. Their old indoor facility was just about falling apart and I’m sure any athletes passionate about track and field had second thoughts about the school after a visit.
Having said that I’ve also heard from local pole vault coaches that have offered to coach the pole vault for free at CU and were told by Wetmore he doesn’t want to have to buy poles and fly them to meets etc.
