There's a difference between hating someone for their individual actions, like Ivanka or the Donald, and hating someone for a category they fit into (race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation). Hating an individual actually takes effort, because you have to pay attention to the individual. Hating a person because of a category is just lazy, stupid, and short sighted. Learn to tell the difference between the two.
NO difference. Calling someone in either category (AA or Trump and his family), what they were called is despicable. Both Barr and Bee both should get equal treatment. But of course they won't.
There is a difference, they are not the same thing. A short explanation from Wendell Berry.
“Condemnation by category is the lowest form of hatred, for it is cold-hearted and abstract, lacking even the courage of a personal hatred,” Berry said. “Categorical condemnation is the hatred of the mob. It makes cowards brave. And there is nothing more fearful than a religious mob, a mob overflowing with righteousness — as at the crucifixion and before and since. This can happen only after we have made a categorical refusal to kindness: to heretics, foreigners, enemies or any other group different from ourselves.”
