Big movement on the rankings today.
Big movement on the rankings today.
On a scale from 10 to 10 how bad did Amherst look?
haha sorry to point this out but Amherst was tempoing
In the first weekend that meets count for at large points, at the biggest meet your region hosts all year, and your team was tempoing? Your new coach is stupider than I thought

I don't think Amherst is that worried about qualification. Even if they get like 5th at regionals the committee is highly unlikely to shaft them.

You should be sorry to point that out, because it was a horrible idea by their coach.
They added 300 meters to the Augustana course, so the Midwest teams can stop lying about their times now.
That’s ok. They can add another 300 Miles to the course if they want. The Midwest will still have faster times then every other sorry excuse for a “region” in the country.
Go Midwest! You guys are going to bring home the best “region” trophy this year! You’re awesome.
Oh wait, who cares. You’ll only get 5-6 teams like 2 other regions.

If they don't race out of the region and finish 5th-6th they won't go. As teams become more competitive it is essentially a requirement that you race out of the region and beat somebody to go to Nationals as an at large. See the Bates snuff from last year. Bates sealed their own fate by not racing out of the region.
St. Olaf got destroyed by Lakehead University and U of Manitoba. They are not looking good and super overrated. They also almost lost to Macalaster and Concordia. Looks like they already peaked. Good luck to them finishing the season...

Herd that North Central had sum pretty good weed!
Any other reckys?
You’re trying too hard.
Also, hi Shrek.
It’s early, nobody is racing their balls into their stomachs, but nobody with any sort of competitive pride is actually keeping these races at tempo efforts. Unless your team finishes in packs with 1 second spreads, it’s clear you cared about the race a little.
Claiming your team was tempoing is a petty excuse for a loss. Why don’t you just man up and admit you were tired from heavy training or something? Or admit that the rest of the region ran well? Or are you really that insecure that you care about the rankings in September?
This sort of thinking makes it seem like you are focusing on nationals, but it really just leaves you unprepared to really race when you get there. It’s not just Amherst, I’m pretty annoyed with this mentality in general. I’ve certainly been guilty of it before.
No one posting here claiming to be from Amherst has ever been from Amherst. No one’s son goes to Tufts. Jamie Norton never ran 4:06. People troll. Don’t listen to people who claim Amherst tempoed. They didn’t. And no one on letsrun ever posts about their own team.
^Agreed. Come on everyone we need to be better than this. I've been guilty of taking the tempo mentality too far myself. It starts with 1 race and you think "I'll just try it, I can stop anytime I want". Before you know it you're tempoing workouts, tempoing long runs. I even started lying to my teammates so I could sneak off for a quick tempo after dinner. By the time the conference meet rolled around, my balls were no where near my stomach. In fact, they were right where they were supposed to be, which, at a big meet, is where they shouldn't be.

I've never been so offended. As a hardworking Amherst student, I protest this accusation of lies, as does my son, who incidentally runs for Tufts.
For those of you who doubt me, look no further - while the previous poster claims Jamie Norton never ran 4:06, I submit proof that Jamie Norton (who my son is friends with, by the way), did indeed run 4:06. Just ask my son.

It's well known that at that level of running, there's a +/- 3 second uncertainty on the timing, so Jamie Norton might well have actually run closer to 4:09 or even 4:03. Which do you choose to believe?
