They took the meet away from Mt SAC because they were concerned the stadium wouldn't be finished on time. Eugene has not even started to build their stadium yet, and there appears to be bad blood right now between the powers that be at USATF and Eugene (Vin's ousting, which was preceded by a year of BOD drama over conflict of interest)
All of these conspiracy theories that this is all a plot to move the meet back to Eugene are off base.
TrackTown bid on the Trials last year. If they had won, there would have been a different timeline for stadium construction. Yes, they still say they can have a workable facility in time for the Trials, but this is far from an ideal situation.
If the Nike overlords were willing to do nefarious things to ensure the Trials were in Eugene, it would have made way more sense (and cost less money) to pull their strings on the Board last summer with the original bids. It would not make sense for them to fund shill lawsuits and do it this way. Also, I believe both of the lawsuits were already filed before the bid presentations last summer.
My guess is that the Trials end up in Sacramento, or maybe Drake if they enter the race, and that USATF ends up spending more money than they would have if they had stuck with Mt SAC (which totally will be finished in time).
