What is going on with the current situation at Oklahoma state? Ive heard a lot of rumors of transfers and now that Dave Smith may leave for Washington.

The rumors about multiple members of the men's team transferring is true. I am not sure about Smith leaving for Washington.
I won't believe it until I see some names listed at other schools.
So Washington will hire another coach in charge of a program that has stagnated? Makes sense.

I’d love to see Dave Smith at UW.
Don’t care where Metcalf ends up.

You misspelled "won multiple national championships. "

Yes it is true that D. Smith won those championships years ago. But what has he done lately? Was his success just because of the great athletes on the rosters or was it because of him? Now okie state doesn't have those guys who are on track to make Olympic teams. I would like to see him stay and bring the program back to where it once was.
Bobby got lazy with recruiting after they won the Championships and they started paying him the big bucks.

This.
And Dave showing up to either take credit or yell at a kid.
And the program branching out to a full team instead of just distance.

As an outside observer, I think Smith has done a great job at Ok St. You say that he may have just been great because of the athletes on the team, but isn't that a huge part of a coach's job, getting the right guys on campus? Seems like he should be praised for that. Plus they won the conference meet on the track a few years ago. They're definitely not on the same level they were in like 2010 but they are doing fine.
My question about him leaving would be whether UW could afford him. I've heard rumors that T. Boone has taken care of Smith in the past when they've had a good season.
I think you are right. It's been a dropoff from the glory years, but he doing fine. Convincing runners to come to the middle of Oklahoma and compete for championships is impressive enough.
With three national championships and a number of other top finishes, he deserves a job for life, unless he pulls some unethical or abusive crap.
C'mon man. Let's be real here. All of the good teams that OK State has had have been nothing but foreigners. That is not that great of recruiting because you give a full ride and many are willing to go anywhere. If he was having more success with domestic recruits then I would agree with you.

It's an overstatement to say "nothing but foreigners", but I see where youre coming from .
Success is success whether the team is comprised of foreigners or not. The clock doesn’t care what country you are from. Foreigners usually come at a higher cost so it is risky to get too many. It is silly to pick apart success by saying he had good runners or that he had foreigners on the team.
Dave Smith is awful, Fire him....

Everyone knows about Smith's all American athletes. I don't think anyone in this thread was suggesting he be fired, but if he will take the job at WU
I'm not saying that Dave hasn't had success. I'm also not saying that he has not done a great job at developing some domestic athletes (German, Ryan Vail, Colby Lowe, Josh Thompson, Cerake the first couple of years all come to mind). However, the bulk of his really good teams have been foreign athletes. My argument is that foreign athletes are easier to recruit (which they are), and they tend to be ready to contribute at a high level right away. There are occasional busts, but that is why scholarships are a year-to-year thing. Nothing wrong with the foreign emphasis. I just disagree with the idea that he is a better recruiter and developer of highly competitive, yet primarily domestic teams. Many other Power 5's are much better.
Other coaches should be fired if they are bypassing better foreign talent thereby sacrificing the overall program. It is harder, not easier, to recruit internationally. Most coaches have no idea how to go about getting foreigners. This guy’s resume is incredible.
