Some of y'all need a hobby if Sage gets you riled up. He's one of the few running at that level that's super open about training and easy to follow. His videos provide good insight into what it takes to train for an OTQ and plenty of training tips. I hope he gets his OTQ in Copenhagen!
Sage ran 2:16 and went to the trails. I think he came to a realization with where he could be the most competitive and with what he actually wanted to be doing. I respect him for still going for the road times and trying to balance trails/roads. It's not like he's given up completely on the roads. Looking forward to seeing him OTQ and then seeing where he can finish in 2020.
Hi Sage!
It's OK if you want to come here and say your famous line.... OK, I'll bite!
After you get the OTQ please turn to taking down Walmsley. He needs a good kick in the pants.
Copenhagen sounds nice - hope it works out this time, I'm rooting for you Sage. Although this whole OTQ saga is, unfortunately, starting to remind me of the story of Sisyphus. Prove me wrong!
btw, I honestly don't get the haters that show up in every thread about him, just ignore him if you don't care about him. obviously, he's not competitive in marathon majors, more so at ultras. in any case, people are following him because he's a decent professional runner with a somewhat entertaining youtube presence. and he seems to be a nice guy. that's why people relate to him. him chasing the OTQ is comparable to us chasing the standard for Berlin (fast hobby joggers), NYC (decent hobby joggers), or Boston (slow hobby joggers).

All that requires is to finish a 100-mile race. Maybe a thousand or three did so last year?

Sage was trying to make a point that he was a top 50-75 Marathoner in the US. Based on Boston, I have him ranked just outside of the top 20,000 in the US. 19,950 Americans finished that race and he didn't even know how to run until the finish cause he's weak. Top 50?!?! Come on, man! He's still trying to live off the glory of Houston where he couldn't even podium if they only allowed Americans on the podium!
wow that's a hate you've got inside
Let me ask how's your life? With that kind of anger it has to be hard to get days by
i'm a BIG fan of sage. guy puts himself out there, which opens him up to all of this... and does so in a really positive way.
frankly, guy is living the letsrun dream... gets paid to run, probably makes a good chunk of change, has great PRs, and is winning some races (albeit this board generally dislikes the type of races he wins).
i really want sage to nail his OTQ, but i think the lack of long tempo and MP specific work in his build up is going to haunt him. i expect to see him do exactly what he has been doing in previous OTQ attempts... be at or near pace the whole race to finish a few mins shy of goal.
and he'll still be a good guy, good running personality and accomplished runner.
Honestly he's like that bad TV show you can't stop watching. I still check his twitter to see his latest food porn Instagram post or his 25 minute video for coach sage' s advice on how to tie your shoes before a long run. He's a total clown show but he also seems like a nice guy who's just trying to make a living. So I'll probably buy his next book or tune into the 45th installment of what he eats in a day because we're all a little screwed up anyway

100 mile is not Sage's finest... on shorter stuff Walmsley would destroy him.
Good luck, Sage. F*ck the haters - although you don't need to hear that from me. Go crush it in Copenhagen
Wow. Lots of millennials in this thread. Giving him props for having a lot of followers instead of his actual results.
Giving him him kudos for just trying instead of producing. In my day, second place was called the first loser.
Now everyone wants to talk about how nice Sage seems and how awesome his plan is.
Put up or shut up.
And stop calling everyone that disagrees a “hater” or “bitter” or “jealous”. It’s called criticism. It makes you better.
You pansies.
Sage you flying coach or business class? Window or aisle? Do you reserve a special vegan meal?
They have changed the course, so that you will only be running on asphalt. They have also made the course faster, and it is a pure City Marathon. You will almost pass all the historic buildings in the inner city. The course is also faster. The Copenhagen Half marathon show that you can run fast in this city ?
Go Sage ?
I think the main point trying to be made by any of the "haters" is the fact that Sage is a professional athlete making a big deal out of chasing something that some elite, but average joes are also chasing. Most of the guys who are also chasing a sub 2:19 OTQ are guys who don't have a sponsor, and probably work full-time. So the fact that he is putting on this big campaign and putting out all this press about something that a good number of guys will do without that platform, is the annoying part.
As a sponsored runner, who clearly has past success and talent, this should not be a big deal. If some of these other unknown guys had the things that Sage has, Im sure they would chase alot more than just sub 2:19. Maybe im wrong, maybe im just jealous. But I hope he gets it and then realizes he is in a place to do so much more.
I'm an average joe (slightly above average, actually), and I don't understand this criticism. what an appropriate goal is depends on the athlete. I don't think he's not trying as hard as possible. clearly, he realized at some point that he's not gonna become world class on the roads, that's why he moved to the trails, where he actually has won some races. plus he presumably likes the trails. nothing wrong with that. if he was focusing exclusively on the roads, he might still run 2:16 and change, but what's the point of that for him.
I suspect that there are some equally fast or faster runners who are jealous of his success (the fact that he can afford to be a pro). well, it's a free market, he's putting himself out there and gets paid for that. nothing wrong with that either.

I'm supposed to get excited about an aslo-ran for the OTQ. Even if he qualifies (which he won't) I can't cheer for him in the OTs.
He couldn't face the competition so went the ultra route that slow white guys usually go.
Wow you must really be a joy at parties. Look, everyone knows Sage is sub-elite at the marathon, no sh!t. The reason he's so popular is for his extremely informative and (usually) entertaining Youtube channel - something that is pretty unique within the running community - and has a wealth of knowledge about the sport. Plus, he's more of an ultramarathoner, so it's not really fair to sh!t on his marathon ability when it's not really his forte.

Sage should try the Vertical Kilometre races-short, only uphill races.
-HE CAN'T WIN AT ULTRAS BECAUSE HE'S TOO CHUNKY
-HE CAN'T WIN AT MARATHONS BECAUSE HE TOO CHUNKY
I really hope Sage isn't reading this thread.
But if he is, he shouldn't give two facks about that people think of his racing. He's made a life out of being a professional runner. He puts effort into making really informative videos, and markets himself well. I for one am rooting for him.
