First, I am shocked he's supposedly running this. I NEVER though Rupp would run a non-championship, non-US marathon.
Secondly, he has to actually run it. Though, NOP not saying squat about it surprises me none, it's like they don't realize the World Wide Web is a thing. The whole organization could not be more weird.
Kibitok. Seems to me he's a 60 half guy who was pulling Dubai until very late, wasn't it? It seems like he's a 2:04/5 guy waiting for a shot.
Which, again, makes no sense. Salazar is nothing if not scientific about putting Rupp in races with underperforming, or over-the-hill former fast guys. Kibitok is a Danger Man if I've ever seen one.
I can see this race going high 2:08, and Rupp taking it. Big deal. But if it goes 06 or 05, can he hang? Can they handle a fifth place finish? Will Rupp even be there after 30K, now that everyone knows how to knock him down?
This Prague course is certainly not one for PRs. Most of the 2:05 marathoners have not managed less than a 2:08 in Prague so expect something around 3 minutes slower than potential. It's too hilly. However, I guess since Rupp trained for the hills it will be a good workout.
Looks like Boston paid Rupp to do a 19 mile training run.
I think the plan for Prague is to collect more appearance fees.

+1 for his own health

GOOD POINT! If those guys bring the awful weather and conditions that could aggravate his asthma, it would be like bringing kryptonite. RUPPS GOING DOWN!
schmuck
Rupp ran the half in Prague last year 2 weeks before Boston, right?
Is there some weird Prague connection or are they throwing cash at him? Seems like an odd place to show up both last year and this year.

I see where you're coming from, but let's not forget that Rupp's tougher than people give him credit for. He raced HARD in the Rio 10,000 meters for 5th place and lots of people on these boards were saying he'd be toast for the marathon.
Then he ran out and won a bronze.
The fact he's less than two years removed from that really strong showing at 10,000 meters suggests to me he's well-equipped to run a monster marathon.
Well if he didn't enter Prague and was looking to get in another one soon, his only other option would've been Ottawa at the end of May, but last year the heat was awful and slowed the race to outside 2:10. Prague generally has good weather and good organization, and decent fields.

Same location but different race

Hope Galen can snag his water bottle this time. Honestly think he would have finished Boston if he had drank that water. You could see in his eyes that was the second he broke.
I was laughing out loud when he started grabbing Gatorade cups like an amateur hobbyjogger.
Good luck Galen. I'm glad you got back on the horse so soon.
The only reason it is relevant to ask that question is that this country had not produced any major marathon winners for many years in that Khannouchi came to this country as an adult and Meb was already a teenager. It is true that Meb's running development emerged in this country, but the question would be legitimate if posed along lines of whether this culture could produce great runners. It has now done so. What was wrong was to suggest that Meb or Khalid were any less Americans. And the fact is that for many on this website, American-born is just a euphemism for a racial identity.
Almost a teenager. Meb is listed as 12 years and 5 months old at the time of his move to the States.
It was a great buildup. He ran 59:47, albeit on a downhill course.
I try to watch this race every year. Besides Eversport and FloTrack does anyone know of or remember any other past telecasts or live streams?

Awesome, he's finally running a paced marathon. Prague weather tends to be nice and he has experience running there (HM last year) - AR attempt?
Agreed. He's way past due to mix it up with top level Africans in a paced/rabitted race. About freaking time too...

Indeed.
Why the fvck would you not announce competing in a race?
Why the fvck would Nike even give them money, conducting things this way?

And he DNFed Boston, about his 20th DNF in a major race.
LRC historians and other knowledgeable fans will confirm.
Love this. Don't waste the fitness. You can't deny Rupps tenacity.
