A sample does not reflect everyone in the population. That's why it's a SAMPLE. He likely knew who else was in the pool and knew that they were injured runners on the women's team.

noun
1.
a small part or quantity intended to show what the whole is like.
A sample is supposed to be representative of the whole population. This is what I'm saying. His/your anecdotal story is not representative of the whole population. It's probably not even representative of his/your whole team.
At the local all-comers meets in the summer here, the ratio is probably 3-to-1 male. Often times there are no women entering the 1500 or 5k at all. Pretty clear men as a whole are more interested in competing when you don't have Title IX legally requiring equal participation...

I think it's because women take their running and the sport more seriously and have the good sense to stay off these stupid websites which are filled with negativity. Women in general display more common sense and grounded behavior than irrational men do. Men are a bunch of buffoons who need to have a shouting match for who is the best, and that's exactly what letsrun.com is - a bunch of men pontificating and mansplaining to each other and the rare female to grace us with her presence.
Self-hate much?
Title IX is to ensure that all the resources don't go to men, not an incentive to attract women to participate in sports.
All-comers meet to Title9. That makes no sense! Most colleges and most universities graduate 2/3rds to 3/4ths women. Since women graduate from college is significantly larger numbers and significantly greater proportions, women should get take advantage of most of the college resources. Get mad at college football. Get mad at college football coaches. Get mad at college football players. Don't get made at your female cousins and sisters!

I'm not the one who's mad bruh. I like college football, why would I be mad at it? I pointed out a simple observation that men significantly outnumber women at competitive events. College sports would be that way too but Title IX more or less requires equal participation.
I have resisted so far, but OK, I'll take the bait.
I am not only female but I'm also old, 2 weeks shy of age 60. I believe that makes me a real minority on this board, although as others have said there may be a number of women on here who choose not to disclose their gender. I can totally understand why many women (and I really hope some men?) are turned off by the tone of negativity, one-upmanship, crude teenage-boy locker-room talk, and gratuitous nastiness that pervades many of these posts. On the other hand, I also get a lot of useful advice about running-related issues and a lot of interesting information (gossip?) about what's going on in the running world. I'm old enough to be comfortable in my own skin and my feelings aren't easily hurt by some anonymous poster. So I'm willing to put up with the crudeness and nastiness, even when it is occasionally directed toward me because of an opinion I post, to get the good stuff.
If I want likes, I'll stick to Facebook. Still, I really wish this were a more civil place.
Because the “men” are really genderbending chicks with d*ck$!
