Goal 310, I’m old and married to a non runner
Actual 320
Wore a baseball cap, headband, compression shirt, windbreaker, tights and light waterproof gloves, also wore a throw away poncho to the start and am glad that I did.
Athletes village was like a Korean War movie. Wet, muddy, cold, everyone wearing ponchos and looking miserable. People were losing shoes in the mud. Tough start to the day. One cool thing, I was wave 2 corral 1 and was three feet away from Meb. The weather sucked, but the volunteers were great and the crowds were great in spots.
I think the bigger issue was that at the finish, BAA messed up the order of importance. First they handed out water which nobody was taking because we were all soaked. Then they had you walk a half block to get a medal which nobody cared about at that point. They didn’t give out heat blankets until almost Arlington St. By then I had hooked a right and pushed my way back to the hotel and just showered fully clothed, never nude style. My wife is a nurse and she said she saw runners on the subway just breaking down hypothermic, shaking uncontrollably.
One thing I learned is if you do Boston, stay close to the finish.
Goal: top 20 in AG
Actual: mid 60s
A little better than last year. But not good enough.
Had to wear too much clothing to run optimally. And started to cramp a bit, which has never happened in 25+ races.
Original Goal: 2:38-2:39
Adjusted Goal: 2:50 given the conditions, run for place- top-500 range
Actual: 2:44, top-300
I wore split shorts over half tights to try to keep the quads/hamstrings warm without having to wear pants, a singlet, arm warmers, calf sleeves, gloves, running baseball cap. I am not a hot weather runner and had zero desire for a jacket and/or pants. I felt fine during the whole race. I never had a thought about being cold.
I ran an even race and surprised myself with the splits. I had dialed down race goals and just wanted to run 6:30s and make it to the finish in one piece. I went through halfway right on PR pace and has a positive split by a minute to finish a minute off my PR. The effort was even, lost some time on the Newton Hills but I was still really strong there. Split a 6:30 up Heartbreak and then a 6:00-flat on the graveyard mile and that's where I knew I was having a pretty good day. I was amazed that the crowds were still pretty big over the last few miles. I had a blast running down the stretch and soaked it in on Boylston. For whatever reason, things clicked for me on Monday about as well as they could have. I'm hoping to recover well and then take a crack at sub-2:40 after going through another good build up in the fall.

Agreed. I understand that they couldn't change the bag check situation - that will hopefully be a fix for next year. But we should have been getting heat sheets as soon as we crossed the finish. That 5 minute wait made a huge difference.
