If Alaska has an average temp of 26.6C then global warming is way out of control and we are all doomed.

I was thinking AK, also. Glaciers, forest, mountains, and yes, cool weather...
https://www.travelalaska.com/~/media/Images/TravelAlaska/Content/HomePage/GlennHighway.jpgYou can't run east-west across Alaska, but could take the Alaska Highway from the border to Fairbanks or Anchorage/Kenai, probably about 400-500 miles total either direction and you'd see some great country. Now you could a south to north or north to south between Prudhoe Bay and Kenai, that's about 800 miles and a number of people have done that.
I biked the Denali Highway one year, it skirts the Alaska Range, and finished at Denali Park. Ran 8- 12 each day as well.
People have run off road before . . .
Idaho north to south.

Which state would be the coolest to run across?
My pick: Utah
California. they got mountains a desert, beaches, and neighborhoods with pretty nice sidewalk.
Utah, Colorado, California, Montana and Idaho are all great picks. I’ll throw in Wyoming, beautiul state for solitude.
Maryland, it's like 1.92 miles across at its narrowest, so you could get it done pretty quick. so thats cool.

I didn't say "degrees C," I just said "C." As in, "Alaska has an average temp of 26.6, see."
Thirty-four years ago 8 pals and I ran the entire west coast from the Mexican border to Canadian border as a relay in 9+ days
Today, if I could, New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, is what I'd probably choose to run across
Probably Wyoming, Montana or Idaho.

Maine...... a good bit of it you could probably run on the AT, assuming you like hills.
Tongue-in-cheek pick: Alaska (it's the state with the lowest average annual temperature, therefore, "coolest")
Perimeter pick: Michigan, covering both UP and LP
General pick: Alaska

New Jersey. I'd go with a route from Bayonne, through Newark, Elizabeth, New Brunswick, and Trenton, and then finish up in Camden.
Ok, Funny. But seriously, I have run across NJ (in a relay). The River to Sea is a 92 mile relay race from the Delaware River to Manasquan Inlet at the Atlantic Ocean. Great race!
Western Montana would be stellar. Start at Yellowstone run through the Bear Tooth Mountains near Red Lodge, end at Glacier.
Key West to Pensacola in August would be pretty epic.

Sounds fascinating. What route did you take? How long was the average leg? How long a break did you get between runs?
We hugged the coastline (HWY 1) basically the entire way .
There were 2 vehicles and we leap frogged...each leg was 2 hours long...at least it was for the first 7 days...so you got 16 hours between 2 hour runs. In between runs you either drove or, navigated or crewed until the other vehicle's turn...then you stopped a few hours to sleep then drove like crazy to catch back up to the other van that was then numerous running hours up ahead.
We were all but one of us in our 20s and we were mostly 2:22 - 2:32 marathon guys.
A CCPM (California College of Podiatric Medicine) team had done it in like 10 1/2 days a year or 2 before us...we set out to break that record (and did) but the real 'mission' was to raise awareness and funding for starvation in Somalia
