Any sane Brit just takes that comment as sarcasm, and then asks their friends. Don't kid yourself.

The case we're discussing, a simple case of self defense, is one such example.
Clueless. There is no such thing as a "simple case of self defense" because it is affirmative, with the burden of proof on the defendant.
The defendant must generally prove three things to justify use of deadly force:
1) defendant justly perceived imminent danger of death or serious physical injury;
2) defendant attempted to flee or otherwise avoid the danger, using force only as a last resort
3) a reasonable person in the same situation would have done the same.
Unless there is clear evidence at the scene, this can be very difficult to prove, and it is not the cops' job to prove it for you. Statutes like castle-defense or stand-your-ground laws can make it easier, but they can also make it easier for people to get away with murdering their household guests.
One guy was done for shooting burglar in past. But the home owner farmer I think shot the burger through his window running away.
Can't see this charge bring upheld but depends on what actually happened.
At least we don't have toddlers shooting their parents over here.
Released without charge, as all the UK posters were saying would happen

so, you're saying this 78 year old broke into an intruder's house and stabbed him? I say he SHOULD be arrested for that.
This was an under-recognized commment
That was a boring story the first time (all the other times?) you've told it on here?
You offered people free food and drink, British people like free food and drink.
I'm goin to Youtube and see if Pat Condell has done a segment. Condell is one amazing speaker. The UK posters should be proud of this guy. The intelligence, grasp of language and sheer truth is amazing. Ya got to check him out.

If you dare to ask if Mo Farah is a doper, you are even in bigger trouble.
Just by asking? Really? ?
Having lived in both countries...I can say we both have our flaws and our good points....and, most importantly, we are both more like each other than we would like to admit. This fight seems silly...and one that is pushed by trolls and/or extremists.
Also...it is silly to take one incident and use it as a way to describe an entire country and culture.

Ol' fart's been kicked loose and will not be charged.
God save the Queen.
Someone is dead. It needs to be investigated to ascertain the facts. The guy stabbed someone to death. He murdered him. He was arrested. They investigated. They released him.
You are an idiot.
Wow...the class system still exists in the UK. Clearly, you walked around the UK with your eyes closed. It’s now more along the lines of socio-economic categories, just like in every other single country in the world. You know that right? Or do often drive to Compton and hang out with your homies?
Another idiot.
This thread just confirms Americans are thick.

He killed him, but did not murder him. Murder require premeditation.
Time to ban knives!
This happens when you elect a Muslim mayor!
