I am not sure who you are (or, rather, who you think you are), nor do I know ovoindian; however, nothing in his post constituted any type of attack on the character or abilities of Steve Prefontaine. Having said that, I would think it is common for people to wonder what made Prefontaine who he was, and, furthermore, some would question his acclaim. Factually, there were faster runners out there, and some may not have cared for his attitude altogether. As someone who believes that Prefontaine was a very tough and talented athlete, I can still see their side. Now, I am directing my attention to you. Unless you are a direct relative, training partner, coach, affiliate, Hollister, Knight or Shorter, himself, there is no reason for such an inflammatory post for what was really a valid question. Got it? Just because you are regulars here or have friends does not mean you own the internet or Letsrun.com. Back to Prefontaine, I think he was the true example of the "blue collar runner" and I mean that positively. He was grindstone and grit and raw talent. As far as I know, in Coastal Oregon at the time, they did not have camps, workshops and advanced training labs, so Prefontaine had to work and work and work to be as good as he was, possibly harder than others. Generally, he got the results he needed, with a few exceptions.

My thoughts are your as dumb as someone who writes on reddit TIL there was someone called Prefontaine and he was a very well respected runner.
Please use google and the internet and do some research. After 10 years, a sub 13min 5k, a smoking hot wife, 2 kids then and only then can you bring up his name again.
