I'm really hoping this is what happened. Can anyone actually confirm, because it sounds like that would make sense.

I’ve been saying it for years, I can beat centro at any distance at any time. You pick the distance and time and place, lady boy.

He picks distances, times, and places to race all the time. You have yet to show up and race him, though.

I have raced Centro many times in recent years.
The announcer said he did a workout earlier in the day.
He is also racing tomorrow in the 1500m at the Queensland International Track Classic, which is a way stronger field, featuring the best athletes in Australia. This was just a workout.

No. He's back in D.C., I think.
The water goes down the drain backwards down under so if they don't run the race in the opposite direction on the track I assume they are fighting the same forces slowing one down. Do they have charts for what the adjusted time would be? I can't find one.
How does that explain all of those fast times down under in the 1960s and 1970s?
I think the north and south poles switch polarity every so often. Would this effect that?

peaking early
Haha. Well done!
Not sure who is serious, trolling, or who is just uninformed. With the Commonwealth games 3 weeks away they are not peaking early. Their peak is well timed for what is a nationally treasured event. Americans may not give a rats arse about Commonwealths ( and even the biggest stars skip it), but after the Olympics, the Commonwealths are arguably the next biggest thing in a sports crazed country. Especially as they are hosting. All athletes are embraced in Australia. They don't make fun of triathlon, race walking, discus... etc. They respect all athletes. Imagine that.
That is your lesson for today. Class dismissed.
we hammer the race walkers
That’s mile pace for Centro

Ha! and they got your only 2 Rio medals. They get the last laugh.
When I lived there I genuinely felt they were respected. People poked fun at them for 'waddling' but would always respect their dedication. Either way, not nearly as harsh as insecure Americans.
40 hours round trip is a long time to travel for a 1:53.
Interesting.

Seriously, it’s almost like every single American star skips it.

He is on the entry list, but I thought he was in DC too.

Merber seems to pop up in all corners of the world !?!
I was actually at the meet. Centro didn't fall. He basically hung at the back of the pack and then completely (and I mean completely) shut it down after about the first 500.
The weather was terrible with occasional downpours and wind. (Although, if I recall there was not much rain at the time of the 800.)
Not sure why he didn't make much of an effort, might have been the weather, might have been an earlier workout. I kind of think it was a combination of all of those things which led to him not really fancying it on the night. There was hardly anyone there and, like I said, the weather was terrible (for Brisbane anyway).
Although that didn't stop others from running solidly. Tiernan was good in the 5 and Merber ran decently. Spoke briefly with Merber afterwords and he said he wasn't feeling it, probably a little tired and jet-lagged. (Btw, he's a really nice dude and was happy to talk.) Fleet also ran--he almost did as badly as Centro.
I wouldn't read much into this race for any of the Americans.
