I'm married now (not that marriage keeps everyone from CL personals), but in my bachelor days I kept a line in the water on CL. A good ad and pic unearthed some real gems. Hahaha ahhh those were good times.
How long ago was that, though? I'm a pretty good writer, and I look reasonably good shirtless, and it was virtually nothing in recent times.
It's not just me, either. I went on a business trip and was able to try Bumble (I'm married), and I couldn't believe what I was pulling in.
This was up to 2013 or so. Tinder was new, but there were still women on CL. I guess that's probably changed since then. Come to think of it, why even use CL with Tinder/Bumble available?

Because you're married or in a relationship. That's the only conceivable reason. That's why I tried it out - I was skeptical about Ashley Madison's claim that there were women on there, looking for affairs. I wasn't going to sign up for Ashley Madison, giving them my information, just to essentially research a hypothesis. So I started posing CL Casual Encounters ad. Like I said, I got a few legitimate-seeming responses, but only once in a blue moon.

I think it has something to do with the Civil War.

So apparently this thread needs to be deleted or banned because of it's connections to slavery?
Why not just legalize prostitution and be done with it? Seediness and abuse exist in ALL forms of business (construction, garment districts, farming, etc.), so there's no reason to pick on "the world's oldest profession" because of sex slavery. While that is an absolute atrocity and crime against humanity, it could be addressed as a separate matter apart from a legitimate sex industry.

Because on craigslist, you can actually write more than 3 sentences and really showcase more of your writing ability. Tinder/Bumble/any other app are all about photos and swiping. Even "serious" sites like Match caved to the swiping trend. Although I haven't used anything but CL for at least a couple years now. I will miss craigslist personals for the simple fact that it's such a random mess of people being completely honest about what they want, rather than a slideshow of photos with emojis or one-word descriptions that I don't understand. I will miss it.
Craigslist did not catch on with much of the younger crowd. I had some friends that were a few years older than me and they did all their online dating on Craigslist. It became way too sketchy and filled with mostly bots, spammers, catfishers, prostitutes, etc. Way more nefarious stuff than anything else. Real, younger, single women would barely post there in recent times (or probably ever).
But if you are a guy, you could still put something clever together and slap up some photos and get plenty of real responses, even very recently. I stayed away from casual encounters, but would get replies in other categories if I crafted the right kind of personal. I put up something looking for a wedding date at an out of town wedding and have got plenty of real replies, even as recently as yesterday. But I mostly got messages from single moms, fatties, and other less than desireable mates (probably because I am less than deaireable myself). Women are lurkers online and not as vocal as men, but they are there and will reply. For good reason, too, because just look at the harassment that known female posters get on here.
And about the missed connections section. I had a roommate that used to peruse that part with a recently divorced woman he was dating. They would get on there and poke fun at some ads. They stopped seeing each other because she moved away, but she still had strong feelings for him. She Wanted him to move with her. My roommate and I found her posting on missed connections after awhile. And Myself, one woman I met off Craigslist fell for me (i wasn't crazy about her) and pretty sure that she threw something up on the missed connections.
I'm actually surprised Casual Encounters wasn't more popular. You have to imagine a lot of people, men and women alike, are out there fantasizing about having an affair or even the occasional one-off. But crickets. The vast majority of people don't stray, I guess.

Pretty sure that I posted in Casual Encounters once or twice out of curiosity and got nothing from real people. Didn't include a pic, so I'm sure that didn't help.
The problem is that an actual real post in Casual Encounters gets completely lost among all the fake nonsense. It even became that way in the general "men seeking women" dating section.
And people stray. They definitely stray. It's more likely to happen with people you already know rather than CL randos. There are probably more bad relationships with people looking elsewhere than good relationships. It's just that casual encounters no longer was the spot for that.
I have no idea what other random anonymous site or app will take the place of CL for these purposes, but I'm sure something will pop up, if it hasn't already.

True, but something like CE seems like it would have made it so easy, without the difficulty of the mating ritual, which is difficult enough without the complications of significant other status tossed in.
I'm thinking like an economist, I guess. People like sex. People like sex with new people. CE, had people taken advantage of it, could have provided easy and plentiful opportunities to have sex with new people. But straight people - straight women - just didn't use it.
I'll miss casual encounters... great entertainment.
There was a guy that used to post as the Human Toilet just about every week. I wonder if he ever had anyone take him up on his offer?
I always wondered if it was someone goofing around, a troll, or if someone was jerkin with an ex-boss or ex-husband.

Voice of experience, this is not true. The numbers were smaller than you might expect because of 1) Stigma and 2) Fear, but women who overcame both used it. Also, you could snag women who were "just browsing out of curiousity" if your post was written in the right way to ease the stigma and fear.
Viva, no male in the history of CE has ever had success without a pic. Just the way it is.
Another secret I discovered: you could raise your numbers by trolling the w4mm pool. By far the best and longest running encounter I found via CL was by making a mm4w post using a fake 2nd dude. "Oh I'm so sorry, he just texted and said he couldn't meet tonight. Bummer. But since we're here...." She was a gorgeous woman.
Look at all these bi curious males inadvertently giving attention to the downfall of their favorite section of cl. Bunch of lwc cuckold sissies

I don't understand your post. Are you saying that you needed to be far away from home to use Bumble (because you are married) and you were "pulling in" a very bad quality of woman, and you "couldn't believe" this?
Congratulations, you have now pulled ahead of "Libertarian Vegan " for Most Hated Poster on Letsrun.

Yes. I had to try out Bumble far from home because otherwise I might be recognized, as I am married.
And when I say "pulling in," I mean I couldn't believe the high quality. But then again, on CL, I just posted a body shot.
In theory, yes. But even a quick hookup, not exactly a full blown mating ritual, is still fraught with basic human emotion, behavior, communication interpretation, and such. And as a woman on the Internet, you are inundated with so many garbage males, it's easy just to write off a site like craigslist and not bother.
You are right about the stigma and fear part, that's true for online dating in general. But plenty of women still browsed the CL, even up until the end. Not exactly super models, but women, nonetheless. And yea, the way you write a post can help a lot. I would have people messaging me saying that it was the best post they had seen on there in awhile.
I'm not sure what you define as success on CL, but I got plenty of attention just with my words without including a picture. Obviously, pictures were often shared at some juncture, but I would progress to the point of phone calls or even in-person meeting without sharing a photo.
And nice scheme with the w4mm. Wish I had thought of that one.
Thinking about this, if you're a woman, why would you respond to ads anyway? Post your own, and then have your pick from the hundreds of responses you probably get.
