Yes PValley is great! Surprised you found something affordable there. You probably already know about this place but Windy Hill Preserve OSP is one of my favorite places to run in the Bay Area. From there you can hit up so many other OSPs and trails.
Oh ... and to the SONOFSAM guy you should really get out more. A lot more. If you think the 101 corridor is the Peninsula well that's just sad.

Also, ALL of the open space preserves along the tops of the coastal hills have outstanding interconnected trails, from fire roads to singletrack trails through the Redwoods.
Too, for a little "scenery" a young intern might like the trails around the Dish behind the Stanford campus.
I surprised no one mentioned Saratoga - a bit closer to Sunnyvale than los Gatos and up in them hills.
