He will have a nice contract.
As a ME graduate, I can assure you that engineering (any discipline) is both time demanding and difficult wherever you go. I highly doubt Stanford is an exception. I was a very successful D1 runner, but never ran as well as I could have because...engineering just plain hard. I promise you that Grant, on average, probably sleeps less and stresses about school much more than his competitors on the national stage. Hats off to him for being an excellent student in one of the toughest majors whilst racking up All-American honors. Should he decide to commit running after graduating, he will run even at an entirely different level than he is now.
Saarel has ran 3.38 for 1500 and Grant has ran 13.30 as a true freshman (?) and a NCAA title in the 5k. Definitely credentials to get a contract
Engineering majors on average study more than other majors, but only slightly, and the difference between the most and least is minuscule. Engineering majors average just 19 hours per week of studying, business majors at the bottom average 14 hours.
A gap of 5 hours on average is not that much. 19 hours is less than three hours per day of studying. 40-60 hours a week would be more like it, and considerably less than I studied in college.
"Engineering majors spend the most time studying, 19 hours a week, but even among those who exceed 20 hours, nearly a quarter still often show up for class without assignments completed, the report says.
Business majors study the least, 14 hours a week, along with social-science majors, whose professors' expectations, at 18 hours a week, are furthest from reality."

Struggle? You are a fool. Dude is returning 5K champ outdoors (as a Sophomore!), and was 5th at NCAA XCs. We should all be so lucky to "struggle" like that.

Two time PAC 12 champion as well as three time NCAA national scholar athlete ( 2xXC, 1 track).
Fisher is the Dude.
I can say that the engineers on my team invest way way way more time and work into classes and hw than business or social science majors. I'm not sure where your reported facts came from, but at least for our school which is a top engineering school like Standord. they are completely off base. During my undergrad and grad semesters I would typically go to class all day, practice, and do hw until 11 pm before going to bed. No free time whatsoever and weekends were very similar. It was usually an anomaly for the other majors I lived with to have to do work at night. The gap is much greater than 5 hours...
