NIKE "sponsors" Pappas to the tune of $5k/year base... that's pretty much charity.
She doesn't get crap from NIKE anymore.

Nike's biggest concerns are their athletes representing on the World stage. Their contracts are largely based on qualifying for World Teams, and how they finish at the world stage. Ches can't obtain citizenship until 2022 which is why Nike probably had a lack of interest in signing him. If they did offer him anything, it was probably A LOT less than what skechers was willing to give him. Skechers needs a new face of their company which is why they signed Cheserek. Ches will compete on Roads and Track for money until is eligible to compete for the US. Stated earlier in 2017 that he has no interest in joining the Army. Smart move for Ches. Has a great company backing him, great coach, great group of guys to work with. I hope to see great things from him in the near future
Ches is a slick NY/LA kind of guy. LA is Ches's town. He fits LA like a glove. Not to mention all that BIG BLACK JIGGLY BOOTY in South Central ;-)

Well... Skechers is an anagram for Cheserek so it was kind of obvious that it was going to happen.
Skechers is an anagram for Cheserek only if you speak with a thick Kenyan accent.

I'm confident this came down to Skechers giving him a better deal. I'm sure Nike offered one, but it probably just wasn't appealing enough. It's misleading to act like Nike snubbed him.
+1
I think Ches snubbed Nike!

Pappas went to the Olympics by representing Greece and Nike can market her as olympian, writer, film maker, Greek goddess, etc. So that's not contradictory. Different from Ches who can't even represent a country.
Pappas abused the rules and ran for Greece. Should not have happened.
She is not a good pro runner and her jokes are not funny anymore.

The only thing that makes sense to me in this situation is that Nike didn't offer Ches any decent contract because his blackness and citizenship were not marketable enough. If so, that's truly despicable, but nothing would surprise me at this point. I'm not even a huge Ches fan, but Christ he's the top NCAA distance runner of all time. I'm sure there's something more to the story - maybe Ches will tell us one day unless Nike has some non-disclosure agreement with him.
Nike fired Leo Manzano and Meb, both in their prime and both have dark skin!
sketchers allows him to train with powell, nike wouldnt
Glad he got the Skechers money. Don't think they are doing a very good job marketing him like they were with Meb. Hope they prove us wrong.

Skechers recruits older runners. Meb, Kara Goucher... It makes perfect sense for Ches to run for Skechers
Solid meme

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
