Well... Skechers is an anagram for Cheserek so it was kind of obvious that it was going to happen.

Keen observation - just missing one E!

I like the catch on the near-anagram, never noticed that or heard anybody say that before.
Did they actually "snub" him, though? Or did skechers just offer him a better deal? Maybe more guaranteed money, or a longer deal, etc.

Think about it. What value would another Kenyan be to Nike? He's not even a top-tier Kenyan. As an American, he might be worth something to a major US sponsor, but not as another Kenyan.
One important thing to note that he doesn't want to represent Kenya, only USA. But he can't acquire citizenship until like 2022? Makes sense that Nike doesn't want to sponsor someone who will not be at the WC/Olympics.
Boston traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees. It happens.

Maybe he should just join WCAP. He could be "American" tomorrow.

You sound salty. Anyone who goes through the immigration process and serves in the military is as American as you or I.
Skechers recruits older runners. Meb, Kara Goucher... It makes perfect sense for Ches to run for Skechers
He’s not a top tier Kenyan, and he’s not American, so he’s in a weird spot.

Did you see Kenya's 5000m team at worlds last year? Ches could have easily performed better than them.
It's a scary question for any would-be running pro to ask, but why would Nike spend money on him? What does he offer them?
You have to look forward and it's a risk/reward ratio question. Cheserek will most likely compete in the future as an American. Will he become a champion? It's a bet that Nike chose not to make. They lost on Meb big time... Meb beat the odds and showed us all he was a great investment... and person.
Introducing: the "Skecherek"!
It's not always about running fast. There is the personality factor.
When it come down to it, would he (Cheserek) really help a company sell more shoes?

BINGO. IMO, he comes off as not only aloof but also arrogant in brief interviews. But maybe that’s just me, because I also dislike his “wasting the gift” by running just fast enough to win (most of the time), and his nervous looking around during the final 200m.
I'm confident this came down to Skechers giving him a better deal. I'm sure Nike offered one, but it probably just wasn't appealing enough. It's misleading to act like Nike snubbed him.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
