What I mean by "buy American" is that I'd like to buy a car where the majority of its parts and factory labor are sourced and located in the good old US of A. Not Canada, not Mehico, definitely not Japan. If that can be accomplished through Honda, despite its Japanese ownership, I guess I can live with that. But, of course, ideally I'd like a car that is 100% American, or at least North American made.
The American Automobile Labeling Act requires new car stickers to list American content so if you are looking at a new car, you can read the sticker and see the domestic (US+Canada) content, where the engine and transmission were manufactured, and final assembly point.
NHTSA posts reports of this information online so you can look up the car you're interested in.
