If I had two Olympic medals, I wouldn't give 2 fvcks what my PRs were. I'd rather have the medals instead of the times unless perhaps it was a world record. He can still drop a 205 in Berlin or London if he wants to do that. Looks like he is focused on making money and marketing himself (to make more money). I think he'll chase a fast marathon time for sure, eventually. He went after times on the track quite often, even indoors.

Let's settle this now.
After a decent sampling of 100 responses we can tally the votes and declare once and for all whether he is or isn't, because I'm tired of hearing that he is.
I'll cast the first vote:
NO
Current results: (please update)
No - 1
Yes - 0
Yes*
*Has he? No. Can he? More than likely. Like a LOT more than likely.
And when he does mindweak is going to have to eat so much GD crow. ?
Rupp marketing himself?
LOL
What running planet are you from?
You don’t get points for capable of...
I've ran just 6 seconds off of a WR whereas Rupp is still about 6.5 minutes off.
Do I consider myself a 'world record guy'? Of course not!!!
(I once ran a 15 second 100m)

I think he can push 203/204 territory.
Rupp be da man! ?
Yes. Because he's at least a 2:03 guy and that includes being a 2:06 guy.
He's already beaten the WR holder and given his closing speed in Chicago and race conditions, his Chicago time converts to around 2:03 high. He will likely only get faster so calling him a 2:06 guy is a no brainer. I expect him to break Mutai's course record in Boston easily this spring.
Similar prs and has never ran a 2:06
Yes. 2:05:25 under the right conditions and course. Berlin would be ideal for him, or Dubai.

I don't think he is capable of going sub 2:08 in the marathon. His stride is too bouncy and inefficient for the marathon.
Why is this thread even a thing? There's a difference between "capable of" and "is."
Sure, I am in total agreement that Rupp has the ability to run a marathon in 2:06. Maybe even faster. Who knows? The point is that he hasn't. That isn't a knock on him. It's reality. Until he does it, he is what his PR is.
I ran a marathon very early on when I started running. It was a 3:10:54. I didn't run one again for 14 years. During that time, I got my 10k time down to almost sub-35, and my HM down to mid-1:17. Did I walk around saying I was a 2:45-2:47 marathon guy? No, I was a 3:10:54 marathon guy, until I proved otherwise. It doesn't matter how obvious it was that I could run much faster than that. I had not, yet.
"Capable" and "is." Learn the difference.

You should have been more specific with the question. Technically no, Rupp is not a 2:06 guy, as he has not run 2:06. Do I think he COULD have run in 2:06 by now in the right race? Yes.
Also, this survey doesn't really matter since I could just vote yes on 100 different accounts. And why are you voting on your own survey? That seems like a no-no.
Bad survey question.
Anyhow,
Yes. His profile suggests at the slowest, a peak pr potential of 2:06. Perhaps he could run faster.

Yeah, but this would not even be a question, then. "Did Rupp run faster than 2:07:00? No" No one would need an audience to compare numbers.
Obviously the survey means to explore what people think of his marathon strength.

It's just like a race run at altitude or sprints adjusted for wind. If you apply the correct conversion factors to Rupp's races you see that he's already run faster than 2:06. QED
< 2:06
He is CLEAN.

I think he's faster than Ryan Hall and Ryan ran 2:04:58 and 2:06:17.
I think Rupp can run faster than that and Rupp has beaten competition that has run faster than that.
YES
One ran the fast times, one hasn't, until Rupp does he can't be considered something he isn't. Rupp obviously has more accomplishments but this conversation is about speed.
Fix the dumb poll. It's a matter of fact that he's not a 2:06 guy yet, but the question you're struggling and failing to phrase correctly is, I assume, will he be a 2:06 guy--right?
You could make it more interesting than just a binary question.

Has also never finished on the podium at a major, much less won.
Not the greatest comparision to make a case with.
