Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was stopped at a light in my mid size SUV and a girl driving a new mid size Ford car (can't remember the make) rear ended me full on with no braking, roughly at 45 or so mph. She reported to the police that her foot was caught under the pedal which prevented her from applying the brakes, however, in the instant I saw her before the impact in my rear-view mirror I noticed her phone in front of her face.
Her car was completely totaled with both air bags blown and the grill in the firewall. On my SUV the bumper was broken off, exhaust pushed up and in, and that was about it. There was some other minor structural damage but all in all my car held up really well, German engineering. Cost to fix my SUV was around $4k.
I was hurt but nothing life altering and I did not seek any treatment outside of a chiro. Unfortunately, it happened mid Boston build for me and ended up taking me out of training and cancelling my trip. I hired an attorney and because I didn't have treatment other than a chiro I was basically SOL. He ended up getting me around $2k in addition to car and medical (limited to chiro) but that was it. If your chiro wasn't at the recommendation of a medical doctor then I'd say you're pretty much SOL as well.
