Former college coach, current HS coach. I know how college coaches dog each other out for a variety of things. More often than not, that spills over into their comments to recruits. I suppose the thing that baffles me is why anyone else cares if a coach chooses and is able to move to a variety of positions? People saying that it damages the profession certainly have a right to their opinion and it's also quite alright if that differs from mine. I just wonder what's it to you all if Coach West has moved around. It's his choice and clearly he is good at what he's being hired to do or he wouldn't have been hired by so many Power 5 programs. I wonder if there is equal disdain for the programs which have hired him? For whatever reasons he has made those many moves, at the end of the day, it's his call. You do you and he'll do him. Why can't it be left at that? Oh because so many people get a kick out of disparaging someone else.
I know from experience how hard it is to get into the profession. I volunteered for 4 years at two different programs until I got a paid gig. It's a great profession, albeit one that rarely pays that well and I don't regret the years I sacrificed as that was my goal for as long as I could remember. Also, I respect people who do their best to represent the profession in an admirable manner. Having said that, it's also a profession in which far too many people can't just mind their own business and this is one of those times. Here's hoping that everyone reaps the benefits of their hard work and quits worrying so dang much about who is taking what job. Yeah, I get it, however, I'm just a high school coach and most likely not worthy of having an opinion among so many geniuses. Good luck, y'all. Take care of the kids us lowly high school coaches work so hard to develop from scratch.
