Who's in the running for the Cal job besides Huffins? Has Anderson actually applied for the job? Aside from having more coaching experience, what is Anderson's draw as opposed to Huffins?

Ahhh, Maybe All-Americans, National Champions etc.
Gimme a break
Whoa, it was just a simple question with my intent being to find out more about Anderson. I wasn't trying to imply that Huffins was a better candidadate, I smply think Huffins could be a huge draw for prospective families and donors seeing as he is a relatively high-profile athlete and not too far removed from the Cal scene (coupled with the fact that he is a pretty decent coach.) Didn't mean to belittle Anderson's track record (npi, just wanted to know how the two measured up in terms of ability to draw in new talent and money.
Who is Anderson? It's my understanding the two finalists are Huffins and Eldrick Floreal the sprint coach at Stanford. ( I also understand the pool to chose from was rather weak and the job doesn't pay what you would think! )
FLO(NOT FOR)REAL - That's bad bad bad.
Anderson is sprint/hurdle coach at Arizona state, used to be at K-State and Kentucky I believe. Has 16 years experience, compared to Huffins five, and numerous national champions and all-americans.
What national champions besides Tim Harden? He's the only one I know. Just a question.
Looking at results, they've been rather unimpressive in the past 3-4 years, from what I'd expect of past performers. He'd probably make a good head coach though.
Your right the past few years it hasn't benn all that great.
Maybe thats why he's put his name up for the job (if he has)
I think heff is actually Coach Darrell Anderson of ASU. Trying to downgrade Huffins to get the job. I thought sprinters weren't allowed on these boards? j/k
I figure any assistant would apply because they want to be a head coach, that way they can make the decisions. It's all about control and power and setting yourself up for your ultimate job, if you're lucky enough to get there.
Those would be two good candidates, I think. 1) The exposure of Chris Huffins, guided by the past coach who's still involved at Cal. 2) A solid coach in Anderson who has lots of passion, more experience, also good for recruiting. You take your pick. Without commitment from the school, it won't matter much. Last I heard, Cal has like 5 scholarships for men, same for women. Anyone know the real #?
don't know exact numbers, but word on the street is that the program will be fully funded in the near future, especially if folks like Brian Maxwell are pleased with the new hire (Huffins is/was a power bar guy)
Sprint coach from Stanford? That's an oxy moron!
The four people interviewed after the bears nationwide search are are rumored to be ( so says the cal message board ) Cal assistant Robyn Johnson, Floreal, Huffins, and everybody on this boards favorite Regina Jacobs. Current Bear coach Ed Miller wanted to remain an assistant. Brain Maxwell ex Bear distance coach and Power Bar founder is said to be willing to put big bucks into the program now that Erv Hunt ( who fired him ) is no longer in charge!
Still wondering who it will be, not with just this job but with all the jobs still open. Doesn't really seem fair to those athletes who will be on those teams to have to come into a program, whether they are new or old, that will be in disaray due to a new coach. Better timing sure would have helped.
Let?s get a few things straight about the Cal job.
First off, the real interviews will begin next week. No one has been formally interviewed yet as they have only just set their finalists.
Cal currently has money for @ 8 men?s scholarships and 12 women?s if they stay in state. Any speculation that funding will improve in the near future is just that, speculation. They need a lot of money for things beyond scholarships (travel, salaries, etc.).
Erv Hunt does not want any of the current assistants elevated to head coach.
Realistically, this job is a joke. It pays poorly (@$80,000.00 to oversee both programs), the new HC will be expected to keep the existing staff (2 of whom are poor), and Cal?s athletic department, while possibly better than in the past is still run by amateurs, and is swimming in red ink. Worse yet, it is very difficult to get kids into Cal, and that is largely the fault of a university administration, which is very anti-athletics. In some people?s eyes they did the right thing by easing Erv out, but the reality is that he was not the real problem with Cal track.

Have you checked out the cost of living in the Bay area? Housing is out of control! $80,000 in that area is like making $25,000-$30,000 (or worse) in Midwest. I know a guy making $70,000 in that area and he can't afford to buy a house!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
