Interesting race. I had competition until just before halfway. I decent DIII runner (950 2 miler last year), ran with me for 2k. The race has some grinding/rolling hills, but more than that, lots of turns. The course is around the perimeter of a cemetery with several 90 degree turns (I think to slow cars down) on each of the 4 sides. You run to a round a bout, and go back to the start.
Also frustrating is that they lay the course out differently than the course map. According to garminconnect I ran 3.17 miles at 5:08 pace. Miles were 507, 509, 509, 445 pace for the remainder.
Can't count it as a sub 16, but it was a good effort and faster than lastyear.
This thread is interesting to see how others periodize.
I've been running for 21 years (since HS), and have never truly been coached (I didn't run in college). I know I need more long runs,
For the remainder of 2017, I'm going to focus on consistent mileage in the low 60s, and general diet/health. I think Shamrock Shuffle in the Spring will be my target race.
