Is Mercer a JC team? I've heard of Slippery Rock & Alcorn AM, but never Mercer.

So sure Alabama has 1 loss to a very good opponent, which won't hurt their cause to a great extent. They just have a very weak resume of quality wins. Not playing in the conferences championship will likely further damage their standing.
Not necessarily...remember last year? The committee took a 1 loss Ohio St team over a 2 loss Penn St. that defeated Wisconsin in the Big 10 championship game. And Penn St even beat Ohio St for it's only loss that year!
Bama will be ranked *#5* comes Tues, they will be the first one in with either an Oklahoma loss OR Wisconsin loss. Winners of the SEC & ACC championship games are guaranteed locks.
You're welcome.

That one loss Ohio State team last year had some big wins. This one loss Alabama team does not have that advantage. But everyone is pissing away their chances so sure if Oklahoma loses Bama will probably slide in.

Different situation this year. This year you are talking about taking a 2nd team in one P5 conference and leaving out a 2nd P5 conference (in addition to the PAC-12) entirely. Last year the committee thought Ohio State was the best B1G team, and thus took them over Penn State despite the head to head. It helped that last year Ohio State had wins against Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Alabama has no wins of that magnitude this year. Ohio State was also ranked #2 going in to the final weekend and actually dropped a spot after not playing (Clemson jumped them). The emphasis on the conference champ weekend is huge, and if Alabama isn't playing and someone behind them gets a big win, they might get jumped.
I could see them doing it, but it isn't a slam dunk, especially if it's Ohio State...TCU is less likely, even though they have similarly quality wins to OSU this year (and will have avenged one of their losses).
The argument for Alabama could also be made for Wisconsin if they lose a close one to Ohio State. Similarly bland resume, but only one (late season) loss to a 2 loss conference champ (potential conference champ, in Auburn's case). But no one on planet earth thinks Wisconsin has a chance if they lose.
The CPF last year took a team that did not play in its conference championship game.
Big12 might get screwed by having a championship game if TCU wins.
Bama has 46th SOS.

If Clemson loses to Miami in the ACC Championship, does Miami get back in the CFP?
Yes Miami would be in.
Clear and Present wrote:
1. Alabama played a weak schedule.
2. Alambama did not even make it to the conference championship. This is an understood criteria of the selection committee.
3. You left out the quality wins of the other teams (I.e Clemson beat Georgia and Miami destroyed Notre Dame).
CFP took Ohio State last year. Did not play in championship game.
Clemson beat Auburn, not UGA.
Championship game is a point that is looked at.

Being ranked earlier in the season is irrelevant.
Alabama doesn’t have the wins to get in.
The committee does not look at pre-season rankings. So FSU was not (over) ranked at the time.

WRONG. Alabama shouldn't have played a cupcake schedule. Probably will end up without beating a top 25 team at the end of the day. One of the worst schedules in the NCAA. This is what happens.
they scheduled FSU #3 ranked and has been in the playoff/BCS championship hunt for years, who else scheduled that good of a team out of conference, Ohio? they got slapped by Oklahoma....
Clemson scheduled and beat Auburn. That is a much better win now than then.
Georgia scheduled Notre Dame.
Notre Dame scheduled well Miami, UGA, Stanford, USC (all of them are playing for conference titles)

If Georgia beats Auburn narrowly in its second try and Ohio State beats Wisconsin narrowly, then since the polls have Alabama ahead of Georgia right now, they move Auburn and Wisconsin down beneath both of them and may, just may, keep Alabama ahead of Georgia, but either way, if Clemson and Oklahoma win, Georgia and Alabama will be in the playoff with them and Ohio State with two losses already won't vault right over them both. The voters like Saban teams and require a big reason to vote them out of the playoffs. Oklahoma may lose as well. Bama will be in.
If UGA beats Auburn, there is no way Alabama stays above UGA. Bama might still get in, but no way it can be higher ranked. In fact if that happens it might be UGA v Bama in the Sugar Bowl.

What? Different situation this year? ? No...it was far worst last year for the committee to take a 1 loss Ohio St club over a 2 loss Penn St team that not only won the Big 10 but beat Ohio St head to head! The committee has said time & time again it places high emphasis on head to head matchups & conference championships. It didn't happen last year as they believed OSU with one loss was still better than 2 loss & Big-10 champion PSU.
Ohio St has TWO losses this year, and bad losses at that; they were HAMMERED by Oklahoma AND Iowa. Bama has one loss to a highly ranked opponent; #6 Auburn. As I said before, Bama will be ranked *#5* come Tues. That means they're the first one in if Oklahoma loses OR Wisconsin loses. The SEC conference is far better than the BIg 10 - so not a problem to have two SEC teams in the CFP this year. Too ban Meyer didn't take care of business against Iowa - that loss is their undoing. In addition, two loss teams are hard to justify in the CFP...period. However, if Auburn wins the SEC against Georgia it would be ludicrous to leave them out with 2 wins against #1's in the last 3 weeks, two wins head to head against Georgia & head to head against Bama. If Ohio St beats Wisconsin, find me anything on OSU's resume that comes close to the 2 loss resume of Auburn. No way the committee will have two- 2 loss teams in the CFP. ?

Definitely...because Miami would more than likely be playing #1 ranked Clemson. We'll see for sure Tues when the CFP rankings come out, but all indications are that the Tigers will be numero uno.
If Ohio State wins they will have wins against Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan State, which are all better than any of Alabama's wins. And they'll be conference champs. Trumps the 2 losses to OU and Iowa.

Those 2 Buckeye losses were humiliating defeats... outscored 93 to 40. It's highly unlikely the selection committee takes them even if they beat Wisco.
Negative...OSU has 2 losses to Bama's 1 loss. Who's going to be ranked higher come this Tuesday? - Bama or OSU? I've got Bama at #5, maybe even #4 (wouldn't surprise me). OSU might be what 8 or 7? And the Big 10 championship game means nothing, as witnessed last year. You can thank me when the rankings come out this Tuesday. ?
You're welcome.

Oh Alabama will absolutely be higher in tomorrow’s rankings. I obviously said if OSU beats Wisconsin.
