HS runner here, I have a big race coming up this weekend, but my shin has been hurting a lot for the last 3 weeks. Went to a trainer and she is pretty confident that I have a stress fracture at best, a stress fracture at worst.
In that time, I've run twice and all of the rest of my training has been cross training on the bike or in the pool. Should I run? Couple factors:
1) I want to help my team, and we have a chance at winning this meet and have been training for it all season.
2) I am willing to accept the risk of missing more time from indoor track to heal from this injury.
3) If it's already a stress fracture, will one race make it significantly worse?
4) Got an X-Ray on my shin about a month ago and there was no stress fracture (I know they don't always pick them up and MRI's are better).
My coaches are hesitant but basically ok with letting me run. Thoughts?
