Centro would have wiped the floor with Jager in a 2K. He probably could have run a 3:47-48 mile last summer, so it's not unreasonable to think he could come through in 3:54ish and hold on for another lap. If it was a tactical race, Jager doesn't have much of a sprint on the last lap so Centro wins in that situation as well.
Centro would win 2k easily and probably flat 3k as well.
Are you guys all forgetting that Jager ran 3:32 a few summers ago. Guy's got wheels. I think it would be pretty even at 2k. Slight nod to Centro though. Jager would win over 3k.

If Jager ran even splits and kept it painfully fast he could possibly drop Centro, but in any remotely tactical race Centro would vaporize Jager.
Centro would beat Jager at any distance but the steeple.
wrong
I love Jager; one of the best steeplers in the world.
But he has no speed (ability to SPRINT finish accelerate like Centro).
I am sure he could run as fast as 3:30/1500, but he can't sprint.

They're 5k PRs have something different to say about that.
I realize I used the wrong "their" and I am embarrassed about it.
Centro narrowly at 2k, Jaegr at 3k.

They're there, now (he says in a comforting tone).
You're confession is you're first step towards recovery.
That was hard for me to type...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the fast 2K races in history have been won by 1500 meter guys moving up. A tactical affair would even further benefit Centro. However I think Jager is right there.
Centro would be able to just use jager as a rabbit and sprint past him in the last 100, no matter what speed jager went at over 2000
Centro would thrash him lol

Centro ran 3:30 that same season too.

Centro's 3:30 was at Monaco being pulled by a fast filed and he runs 1500m races all the time.
He hasn't run under 3:33 since that race in 2015.
Jager ran his 3:32 in Portland in a win and rarey runs the 1500.
And he has a nice 13:02 to 13:20 atvantage in the 5000 plus a slight 7:39 to 7:40 indoor 3000 edge. (Centro doesn't have an outdoor 3000 to compare to but Jager has run 7:35)
Jager has run 4:57 for 2000m (the distance in question). centro doesn't have a time.
2000m may be a good race between the two.
You can't make it a match race. That's pretty dumb.
So assume it's a race with a world class field and a legitimate fast pace.
I give Jager a good shot at finishing ahead of Centro in that race.
1500m moving up is all relative. Is Farah a 1500m guy moving up? Couldn't Jager make US teams if he focused on 1500m alone?
At the end of the day these guys are all pretty fast to begin with 50 sec 400m speed at least.
There are too many variables. Even in a tactical affair Jager could certainly kick reasonably well. And in a fast paced race Centro might hang on and run a fast time and win as well.

Well maybe he could sprint if he got rid of the "old weird Harold haircut."

Are ya friggin silly in the head, bud? Centro would clean Jager’s clock over 2k, and to be honest, also over 3k. Centro’s best effort over 3k was 7:40 indoors, winning over a good field- I bet even at a fast pace Centro would just shadow Jager and put the boots to him over the last lap.
