I'm a freshman in high school trying to figure out my race plan for my final meet coming up later this week. The course we are running at is completely flat for the first two miles. At the end of the two mile mark, the three mile mark starts off with a short steep downhill. It's then flat for a little bit then there's a longish more gradual hill. After you past that, there's like a half mile left, relatively flat. Earlier this season, I ran a 19:10 at an extremely flat course. Two weeks ago, at this more hilly course where the race is this week, I ran a 19:35. My goal is to break 19 here. IK it's a big drop but I've had some good training the past week. I'm wondering what a good race plan would be. What pace should I go at? How fast should I go out? Should I aim for negative splits? When should I pick it up? ... you get the idea. Thanks so much.
