Is it dangerous to run off site in a tropical resort town?

It's not that bad if all you are doing is going for a run. I've been there, and have relatives in the area. If you have transportation, visit the west end/8 mile rock area of the island. Much, much nicer than Nassau, and would make for a much nicer long run.

Not with those specifically, but many similar.

I wouldn't worry about safety. I think the main issue is generally finding streets or sidewalks that are in decent condition and not full of people/motorcycles/etc. The areas tend to be pretty hectic.

Was on a cruise 22 years ago , got off the boat at St.Croix . Went to a lovely beach with a tiki bar .

Too , early in the day for me to drink - so I went for an approximate 4 mile run at 730 pace .

Wish I could run 400 m at that pace now - I digress .

I am a white male and embarked upon this run on a beautiful coastal highway with a very slow speed limit .

Not much traffic that day , but a police cruiser past me several times with a black PO trying to make eye contact with me . After about the fifth time , I could see through the glare of the car's windshield that he was waving and smiling to me .

I returned the wave and smile as he passed me several times more .

I realized he was looking out for me and I knowing jackshit about where I was running was in potential danger .

I wish I could have thanked him .

All for getting a stupid run in .

St Croix and the Bahamas are in different countries. They arent even in the same region, being on different tectonic plates: St Croix is in the carribean, while Bahamas are north america. Your experience is entirely irrelevant.

Anyway, OP, run during daylight and you should be just fine.

I've never been to the B, but I've run off-the-resort in Jamaica, S Thomas, and D Republic...never had a problem. However, I always ask the guards/security at the entrance/exit gate....don't bother asking the front desk, they'll always say "it's best to stay at our resort." And, I usually run very early...around 5:00 am.

It really depends on how fast you run.

I spent a week at the Breezes Resort about 3 miles west of downtown Nassau. I ran daily from the resort in all directions and I certainly felt safe. It was odd though that there were virtually no other pedestrians in the neighborhoods I ran through.

The only problem I had was 2 guard dogs finding a hole in their owners fence and going after me. Luckily they stopped a few feet short of me as I stared them down. I've also had problems with dogs in Saint Lucia and Costa Rica.

Leaving the resort will probably be the best part of the entire trip. Great way to see the town

Hell, I had problems with dogs following g me on the senior singles cruise to Aruba, four years ago. I ran there, the locals all smiled and waved.

As prior poster said, best to run in the a.m. leave the iPhone in the room, don't go alone in Hati, the DR and PR.

We are aware that St. Croix is part of the United States, right?

Bahamas is about as safe as Florida or Texas. You should be fine taking similar precautions as you would there.

I have gone on runs in the Caribbean every time I have been there with no incidents (that being said, I have never been to Nassau). If you are running during the day with no valuables (go ahead and leave the watch in the room while you are at it, because after all, you are on vacation) you should have nothing to worry about. Most of the people who get in trouble outside of the country are typically either drunk, looking for drugs or looking for escorts. If you are not doing those things, you typically have nothing to worry about.

A work trip without work is a benefit. Don't forget to pay taxes. The IRS is known to troll LRC for tips.

Been there at least a dozen times, Nassau is safe enough if you are vigilant and I'd encourage running during the daytime

I've run off resort in St Lucia, St Martin, Jamaica, Cabo, Playa del Carmen, and never had any issues or felt uncomfortable in any way (white male, 30s). This certainly doesn't prove that what I did was safe, but most the looks I got seemed pleasant and curious. I even had a local challenge me to an impromptu match sprint with a big smile on his face. I would say head out before breakfast/brunch. Most anyone who is out to cause trouble will be asleep. Also, I would stay near populated areas. I was very tempted to take a dirt road once that may or may not have been private property, but that is where I drew the line.
